Put the blame on yourself.

Everyone looks to blame others for the things they've failed at in life, this guy is doing fine, im in the military on a single family income with a wife and child and im doing fine, so why blame others?

A must read. No, I will not post cliff's notes. If you have 20mins to spare, take a peek at this.

California and Bust | Business | Vanity Fair

tl;dr

There's a certain style of thinking that says, "If it works, It was because of me, if it doesn't work, it's because some outside force prevented it from working" The victim. Some say the most powerful man in the world claims that, when his efforts are thwarted by some freshmen congress men, it was out of his control and they're out to sabotage him, and thus "he's the victim". It's called victim mentality and those "99%" occupying wall st have it in spades. It's not because goldman sacs paid some trader 5 million dollars that your kids went hungry. It's because you didn't go out and buy them some food, crack open the jar and feed them.

Sorry but I am debt free, busted my butt, have plenty of certifications and am working on a degree and unlike that little picture, I represent a MAJOR portion of America that have the qualifications and want nothing more than a fair paycheck for work rendered.

Its pathetic that major corporations can pay 100 of millions in bonuses to their top level employees but force everyone else to work for $7.25 an hour........To make it clear, how do you like those foreign language classes you receive when you call a help line.

That is a terrible misconception. Very very few ceo's make over 50 million yearly. Very few make it for very long either. And most of it is in stock options. You have no control over that and shouldn't want to. I def want to work for a company run by a man worth 20 mil to the board.

Wanna know who's sucking up all the capital? take a good look around, everybody with a jersey and a nascar jacket is fuckin you over bro. Sporting industry pulls down billions in revenue every year. Know how much CC Sabathia signed for this year? Shit lebron got 110 for 6 years. Point is if everyone wasn't fucking sports center brainwashed there would be alot more free capital. 110 million/6yrs divided into 50k/yr pieces is 367 pieces. 367 people could have a middle class job on Lebron's contract.

Forget sports center, It's the whole fanboy mentailty. Name 20 cell phone brands sold in the U.S. oh yeah, you can't. Because if you don't have a Galaxy S2 you're a homo. It is the same with most things in America, that is how these industries can bring down the cahs flow they do. The principal undermines classic economic principals that suggest that we are rational buyers.

The way it should work is:

Hey phone x,y,z is like $500. So another company makes a better phone q for less and that's what drives the market price.

Way it actually works:

mom & dad got me phone x... everyone is fuckin jelly

Why do you think there is as much ad time as play time during superbowl? If we had a lick of sense we wouldn't watch that bullshit. If we don't watch it they can't lure advertisers and everyone will have to get back to just broadcasting the damn game. Then they can't pay players inexorbanant wages and you and I can spend our money on something that actually stimulates the economy and creates jobs.

^you the consumer allowed it to happen. You wanted your Ipad for cheap, hence its being made overseas.

same with tv, a lot of the cars, computers, speakers, virtually everything 'modern and cool'.

Thanks joe average for not paying attention in the 70's when they started shutting down factories, because that was the start of it all.

these protests are not about giving me shit for free, or welfare programs, or i am the 99% GIVE ME MONEY YOU 1%ers!!!

There are a lot of stupid people that are part of the protests because it's cool, while they have no idea what it's actually about.

anyone who seriously thinks thats what this is about is fucking stupid, and has done 0 research into anything. If you think that's what this is about you are just making assumptions because these protesters are "stupid hippies who want free shit."

I agree with the OWS movement, I dont want shit for free.
I worked 3 jobs so that I didnt have to be on food stamps because i have no kids, I have no family, i support no one. I do not need goverment hand outs. there are people who DO need these programs, those people deserve it, but i am a well abled youth who can support himself, even if it is hard.

the equal tax representation is not "TAX THEM SO YOU CAN TAX ME LESS, OR GIVE ME HANDOUTS"

the equal tax representation is about getting america and our government out of the shithole it's in. it is about equal tax representation not to fix our personal lives, to fix our government as a WHOLE.

WE NEED TO CUT SPENDING A FUCKING SHITLOAD, we are spending a ridiculous amount. THAT BEING SAID, simply cutting spending cannot get us out of debt, it will only slow down how deep we go into dept.

WE NEED INCREASED REVENUE, taxes are the lowest they have been in 50 years.

wanna know a president who helped through a recession by increasing revenue, and raising taxes across the board, as well as broadening the tax base?
Reagan, who people like this adore. Reagan was famous for cutting spending, and slashing taxes. which he did do his first year in office! however he quickly found out this was hurting more than helping the economy. and after 1983 his spending was higher than our last 40 year average of spending, and taxes were higher than our last 40 year average taxes!

well woulda look at that? raising taxes and big government! (in spending anyway) and this guy is the tea party hero!

What OWS wants, in short.
Get corporate money out of politics, make the government work for the people, not for large corporations. (which are good as a part of this country, i do not want them to go away! I love capitalism and i LOVE to see that a small company can grow into a nationwide product! that right there is truly the american dream!)
However as much as i agree they have there place, and they are needed, they are not the opinions of the people, they 1% of the US population, yet they have more influence on polict than the 99% of people!
this is not about the have's and have nots like people assume. This is about a government that operates FOR the people, the majority, the 99%. not the people who gives them the most campaign funds.

the 2nd thing OWS wants is for fair tax laws, get rid of loop holes and huge tax cuts for the 1%. Not to give to me, I don't want it! but to increase revenue for the government, that way we can inject it back into society as a WHOLE (not welfare, public roads, public schooling, etc etc etc, things that create more government jobs!) fix what is completely broken, and get this country back on track to being the greatest damn country in the world, like it should be.

Do i know exactly how to fix it? YOU BET YOUR ASS I DON'T!
That's what politicians make the crazy salary they make for! Making those hard decisions, figuring out how to realistically fix what is broken, and in a way that best suits the people of the united states of america. They do not get paid to fight over weather gov funds should go to abortion clinics and nearly cause of government shut down because of it! (whether they should or not is another argument entirely, but honestly not a pressing issue.)

cliffs.

Don't make stupid assumptions about what people want, that you have done no research on and think you are cool by showing how hard you work without government assistance, sweet! good for you! I do it too.

Learn what this protest is about from educated people, not the hipster down the street who lives on his parents income and wants to be part of a "movement".

Dissatisfaction <> Demands for handouts

I support a family on a single income and I'm doing fine, I certainly don't want handouts.

That said, I and others are still entitled to bitch about things when we think something is awry, and consequently everyone else is entitled to bitch at us for bitching. Welcome to America.

My personal list:

-The rich get handouts too. Taxing carried interest compensation as capital gains is a handout. I've RECEIVED carried interest as part of my comp back when I was in private equity, and I still support it being taxed as income at a higher rate. This is the best example of a long list.

-Bailout/TARP cash should have come with more strings. Goldman got paid out 100 cents on the dollar and most of it trickled to foreign investors who went and did dumb shit with the money. Lots of it went into huge bonus pools, and lots of it is still sitting in accounts doing no benefit to the economy. If they were only after balance sheet security we should have provided a federal guarantee up to $X instead of actual cash. We didn't do this, we provided cash, so they should either lend it out or deploy it to hire/grow the business, or give it back.

-The Citizens United ruling has created an environment whereby corporations, potentially even foreign ones, can exercise influence well in excess of their "personhood". One vote should be one vote, and yet we have nonvoting entities able to expend limitless dollars in campaign donations? The money needs to come out of politics. All campaigns should be publicly (and modestly) financed and all private contributions, either from corporations or individuals, should be done away with. The only manner of contribution any of us should have should be our one vote.

et cetera.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

all these people bitching about the occupy shit are against handouts, but are fine with the handouts the rich get?

And i am all for people being against this, it is your right in this great country, disagree all you want!
what is inexcusable in my opinion is bitching while never taking the time to research what you are bitching against. That isn't constructive, that disagreeing with someone solely to disagree with them.

which, again i guess it's still your right to do, freedom of a opinion and all. but I think everyone agrees that disagreeing just to disagree, is as stupid as supporting the movement just because it's cool.

I'd really like to know what some of your jobs are. I'd bet money many here work in sales of foreign product. The solution is to sell domestic product overseas. Thats what made you guys huge in the first place. Some people just need to get back to work (real work) and sweat it a little. Things are not suppose to be easy.

Seems like a lot of people in here are REALLY misinformed about why these events have been happening all over our country.

Its not about 'lazyness' or 'sucking it up and getting back to work' or having it 'easy'

These people are protesting the growing social and economic inequality. They are protesting corporate greed, corruption and the influence these things have over our government.

This^^^^^^

everytime i see someone counteract protests with the arugement of "lazy, wanting handouts etc etc etc"

I just laugh because of their complete ignorance.

if you are against this shit, that's cool. At least have a relevant arguement, this counter argument is like
"I don't really like oranges"
"THATS BULLSHIT STRAWBERRYS ARE DELICIOUS!!!"

“The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then.”
-Thomas Jefferson

To put it bluntly, saying suck it up and deal with it is unpatriotic. This country was based on the fact that we should always be questioning the governments motives.

I love this country, I am a patriot.

haha I like how you quote the foremost proponent of individual and private property rights and apply that to a bunch of people who want advance a political society based on social collectivism that is detrimental to the right of the individual and private property

They just think if we have more welfare and less capitalism that we'd be able to finally create utopia. It's like Greece doesn't exist to these idiots.

The last statistic is the most revealing. The rest just emphasize what's wrong with student loans.

1 out of 2 OWS protesters is below the poverty line so it's totally not about something for free.

Lets throw some basic stuff out there.

1 in 6 americans is on foodstamps.
The average foodstamp benefit is $245/month.
In heavily democratic areas like new york, the ratio becomes 1 in 3.
When you get foodstamps you also get discounted heat, electric, water, and a free cellphone.

Rich or Poor.
I'm tired of subsidizing 1 in 6 americans at the grocery store, in my electric bill, in my water bill, and on my cellphone bill.

If you want more revenue from me the tax payer. Show me you're responsible with what you have now and can be frugal with it before you ask for more. Until you show that, the money tap is off.

That same bottom 50% should also chip in instead of playing the "victim". Want to increase taxes on the rich? they should pay the same rates on themselves as well. "Shared sacrifice". God forbid if the poor in this country pay any income taxes.

Long and the short of it is that the poor never want to pay income taxes and always want something.

So poor people can't protest without being dismissed that they want something for free? By that logic only the wealthy would protest, but if that's the case--why would they?

I hate to break it to you but it's not just the poor. NOBODY wants to pay taxes and EVERYBODY always wants something.

But the super reach find ways to pay lass taxes then the super poor. Warren Buffet made $63 million and once everything was all said and done, it was an effective federal tax rate of 17.4%. Buffett Takes Steps to Make His Tax Case - WSJ.com

The tax code is a mess.

I saw on some news station today people rallying to pull money from the Banks, because 'banks are corrupt'. People did that back in the 30's, and ended up burning the paper to stay warm being once everyone pulls out of the banks, its worthless paper. These people simply don't understand world economics, and are paranoid. On top of that, they blame everyone else. At least other places in the world have real issues.

They are talking about taking there money from corporate banks and putting them into local credit unions. At least that is the only situation going on that is worth noting.
