[S14] engine swap. any tips?
Hi, doing a swap in the S14, taking the KA out. Now i think i'm sitting fine as to what i have to disconnect, except haynes manual talks about removing hte engine and tranny seperately and i'm trying to remove both at the same time. So, is there anything i should keep in mind when pulling both out at the same time?
I have several particular questions too: 1. I drained coolant, engine and tranny oil. Now as i understand A/C system stays hooked and brake fluid shouldn't be an issue either correct? 2. I don't think haynes tells you to take the rad out when pulling out the engine, but since i'm pulling both engine and tranny out at the same time, will it make it easier if i take it off as well? 3. When taking the engine and tranny out, how should the car be positioned? I'm guessing i'll need to have it jacked a bit to be able to maneuver the tranny, but should it be tilting anywhere (like having rear abit higher then front, or vice versa)? Thanks |

1) no. drain all the fluids - this way it wont be so messy when gear oil is leaking from rear seal.
EVERYTHING has to be disconnected. pull out the harness first or move it to the side at least. 2) take out the radiator. disconnect the clutch fan. take out the stock shround as well. you gonna need that space. 3) no. which ever way. of course u want the front jacked up, position ur chain at an angle, so the engine will hang at 45 degrees. and start pulling. have someone to guide the tranny out! тебе надо будет минимум 1 помощник иначе ты заебешся

Well you can keep the AC but most people opt not to cuz its a bitch to make it work. Basically, like whats been said, take radiator out, intake, harness off. Dont forget to disconnect the heater hosses in the rear firewall. Disconnect the driveshaft, exhaust *take the whole segment after the manifold*. Pop the engine mount bolt underneat *be carefull not to strip the driver side one cuz that angle sometimes suck* When you pull the engine out, have somebody guide it from under the car and make sure that the engine/tranny doesnt snag the power steering lines and brake lines on the fire wall.

what language is that? o_0
Removing the bumper helps when you want the hoist to be more on center with the engine. Also jacking up the front end a bit on the crossmember.... |

well after doing some minor stuff sunday (fluid drain, radiator and some harness removal), we got to it at around 7:30pm and were done by 12:00am (with a break for like 1.5 hours to get some food). Took it slowly, and the hardest part was figuring out what hte hell to lift it by
Anyways, engine out, couple days to clean everything and move some of the missing parts over, and hopefully will be back and running by the end of the week. btw, didnt remove the bumper, worked just fine as it was |

Can someone tell me what these are, and whether i can just swap them over? This is the only thing i found different between the two engines so far. I guess its some sensor, but i wasnt able to look it up in the chiltons manual (probably since im not sure what im looking for). 98 on the left (new engine), 97 on the right (old engine).
