Post Supercar Teardown: Nissan GT-R [Supercar Teardown]

12-09-2009 12:00 PM

The $80,790 Nissan GT-R is faster around a racetrack than many super cars twice the price or more. A lot of that performance comes down to the VR38DETT engine. Here's what it looks like on the inside.

The VR38 DETT displaces 3,799cc, uses 24 valves with variable timing on the intakes and dual overhead camshafts. With the aid of two parallel Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries turbochargers delivering a maximum boost of 17.4 PSI it develops 474 HP at 6,400 RPM and 434 Lb-Ft between 3,200 and 5,300 RPM. Each 608-pound engine is assembled by hand by a single technician per engine at Nissan's factory in Yokohama, Japan. [via NAGTROC]

heavy engine? this car is heavier and makes less power than most of the cars it destroys. lets be real. you wouldn't buy the Ferrari before this even though its engine is lighter. GT-R powns

lol jesus I just said the engine was a little heavy! On me like a school of sharks.

And yeah, I love the GTR. GTR is a pretty cool guy, eh kills porsche and doesnt afraid of anything. But saying, given the chance, I'd take a GTR over a 599? Now that might just be a little rediculous, simply because a Ferrari 599 has a larger pussy magnet stock than the Nissan GTR.
