New Boss 302 Faster Than M3... Nice!

Ford Mustang Boss 302 - BBC Top Gear

Just checked my Facebook and saw this posted by Top Gear's page.

Also, saw that Inside Line posted up an article about it as well.

2012 Mustang Boss 302 Aims To Steal Dream Cruise Limelight

I'm a huge fan of the new Mustang and even though the colors of the 302 aren't my thing (Silver one isn't too bad), this car is effin' lovely.

They also have a "Laguna Seca" model that has the rear stripped and caged with Recaros. Definitely would love to give this a test drive.

i hear that. Im liking the new mustangs too.
Wait til people dial out the suspension. Never been a fan of the rear axle but some people can work magic with those.

Its not the best looking car, but the idea of a fresh new car and just smashing on the road sounds good lol

I'm 50/50 on the looks. I agree that as far as the "retro-esque" cars popping out it's not the best looker, but I do love that front end a whole lot more than the previous one.

Either way for the money this gives a lot of cars priced higher a run in the performance department. The fact that Ford felt the need for "Stripped" down version is what wins me over the most. Poor mans Carrera RS anyone? lol

New mustangs look like a chick version IMO... cool that it's beating M3s though.

That's a given no matter what a BMW is up against. Besides no one mentioned anything about the Ford being better than the BMW. It's simply put out better lap times.

Chick version? Well, Ford has always catered the V6 model to women so if the car appeals to women as well, they're doing their job. Similar to what Nissan did with the 240SX.

I hope that graphics package is vinyl not paint.

Looks like a boy racer special. Rims look like cheap knockoffs. The Laguna Seca badge is totally knocking off the Nurembergring spec car badges with the track outline in it.

Speaking of Laguna Seca. Interesting choice because it's "Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca." Mazda has a Partnership with Ford. Laguna Seca is an awesome track but, I don't think they chose it because of it's provenance.

I would still take it any day over a M3. I would rather have a car I can maintain for $400 a year in my driveway then $4k at the dealership. I just think the paint job and the Laguna Seca tie in are bullshit.

the m3 really isnt all that impressive.

Its a great car. but by sportscar standards now its really nothing special.

Id still rather drive an m3 than the boss.

440hp is some 28hp over the stock 5.0's 412hp.
It's not a lot, but welcome nonetheless.

I guess it all depends on how much better this car handles & brakes over the 5.0
Of course it also depends on pricing.
Article predicts from 35-40k
A base 5.0 is close to 30k
A 5.0 w/ brembos (need to get the premium trim in addition) is close to 35k.

If it's 35k, that's reasonable.
40k is pushing it, unless that's for the Laguna Seca model with built-in cage & seats.
(yes, I'm willing to pay that considering it's from the manufacturer w/ warrantee).

Not enthusiastic about the color themes, but I like the orange.

LOL ya good point. Seriously they look great in commercials and from certain angles on the road but when I get next to one it just seems to damn tall dimensionally.

I like the concept, I like what they are doing, I want to like the car. I have a real issue with the whole tall bodyline. Oh and the rear tail section looked better in the previous version. The new angled rear tail section is odd looking.

Oh and I would never buy a new BMW. LOL

I can't hate on anything about this car except the graphics. Buy it and peel that shit off ASAP. Special edition Mustang's are less then a dime a dozen so who gives a shit about it's value right now. 30 years from now people are going to be disappointed when they realize their "special edition" Mustang isn't worth what they expected because there was 20 different special editions in one model year alone.

gotta remember majority of mustang fans love the whole "big american muscle" thing, so for ford to actually make this thing compete with a higher end european car, is pretty good.

Cant wait to see some tastefully modded ones that arent all "KnightRider" ished out with big ol chrome wheels and tacky kits.

I like the look of the 2011 C/S. Gets rid of the hideous chrome rims.

I really would like to see the specifics on what makes this so much better then a stock 5.0?

The bodyline is not that high in person IMHO. The 350z is higher. The new Camaro and Challenger are insanely high. The trend is higher for side impact safety with all cars.

The 45's in the rear flow a lot better then the flat ass of the 07-09.

Think the worst part's the orange wheels.
Replace that with something subtle and it would improve.

it seems the regular 5.0 GT is all you need against an M3. Motor Trend ran them both around Streets of Willow. there was a .09 second difference between the M3 and 5.0 GT

While true, .09 in the hands of a most drivers, isn't promising a win for either side. The Boss changes that.

i just find it amazing that a run of the mill Mustang GT is serious competition for an M3. 5 years ago people would laugh if a comparison between a GT and an M3 was done.
