so now the people who came here to "do the jobs americans won't do" have grown roots and started families here. we're screwed and we have only ourselves to blame.

you know what will really make a dent in illegal immigration? going after the people/companies who hire illegal immigrants. there's already federal law against the practice but it's hardly enforced. once the lure of jobs is gone the incentive to sneak in here will go down.

maybe racist isn't the right word. but, to me, there's something fundamentally wrong about a bunch of immigrant descendants deciding that a country we stole from its native people is now full. my family came here from Ireland to get away from poverty and famine and to try carving out a new life in a better land. if someone is willing to pack up and move here, even if they jump a fence to get in, I think they deserve the same opportunity.
agreed.making immigration a more straightforward process would also cut down on illegal immigration. if people want to come here and pay taxes, i don't see how that's a problem.

So me waiting in line for four years and applying for a green card means nothing? I had a 50/50 chance of coming here legally but i took the chance and came to the U.S. became a citizen and i love this country because ive been to other parts of the world. I think people need to come here legally so we can screen them and avoid having criminals hop the borders. I understand because of the geographical position we maily have hispanics come over the border and im sure most are hard working people but the fact is they come here illegally. Breaking the law is breaking the law, if you get caught you should be held accountable, whether its jay walking or coming to this country illegally. Think about it, should we just forgive all the criminals in our jails and let them out and let them have a second chance because they might be willing to be good citizens again? We need to stand our ground as a nation and uphold the laws in this country.

Its one thing to complain about the wait time for a green card (which will always be there). What i don't understand is when i hear illlegals say they couldn't afford the U.S application fees but yet they will pay a coyote sometimes thousands of dollars to guide them here. Why risk so much money and your life to come here illegally when for the same amount of money or less you can become a legal U.S citizen? This is the money the U.S. is missing and instead goes to a drug running coyote.

The kicker ofcourse is just because they're legal, doesnt mean they'll pay taxes. They will still continue to work under the table like they did when they were illegal so they dont have to pay taxes.

The problem is that Immigration is a broken, bureaucratic system. I have family who's been trying to legally immigrate to the states for over 15 yrs. Shit, I've had a cousin who's been petitioned since she was born. Funny thing is she finally got approved 6 months ago. Kicker is she cant come now cuz she turned 21 roughly 4 months prior.

My step-dad legally adopted me when I was 15. That was the only way I can get my citizenship faster. I wouldnt have enlisted in the military if I was just a resident...

How many people can really wait that long to get the fuck out of their bad situations? People who have family in other 2nd or 3rd world countries would understand what I mean by this...

Also, consider this, why shouldn't we send these people back to their countries to make their homeland better, instead of coming here like a cancer and making ours worse? They suck the economy dry in hopes of making a life better for themselves, without reprieve of us people here, while born here, have less rights than those who wish to (although unknowingly) destroy our system. There is alot wrong with our country. Its currently in a Captialism/ Socialism balancing act, even though politicians will claim it will always be a Capitalist Country.

Most of the illegals coming into our country don't even understand the meaning of Capitalism. It doesn't mean "Freedom", most of the cards are stacked against you as an individual. We have to rely on the State, Corperations, and Businesses to protect our interest. If someone comes to our country they have to fight to get a green card, work visa, etc... This new Act doesn't let go of that, it simply relaxed the grip.

Hey morons, 200 years ago immigration was much more lax so dont tell us we need to turn back the clocks because of something that was around 200 years ago.
