With great restraint and beautiful camerawork, Andrew Laputka and Ryan Tuerck of
Drift Alliance bring us a merry afternoon in a hissing, sideways Silvia.
What’s remarkable about
Off Seasons is the highly mature production. Laputka and Tuerck do not try to go all
Top Gear with their equipment and they also refrain from dramatic film scores and shallow depth of field.
What they do instead is pick a gorgeous location—a forest dressed up in Indian Summer colors—and make every shot count. You’ll see clear, witty thinking behind their camera angles. And notice that what they lacked in helicopter time they made up with good microphones.
Also, their deep-dish-clad Silvia sounds very angry.
