I live in middle Tenn. We don't get very much snow...ice is the problem here. And if there is alot of ice I'm just not going to drive. To the point, do you recomend that I get any special tires or will just driving safe keep me good??? thanks

I can't say anythign beyond look at the TireRack reviews.

For the record - I tried to drive my car for the first time on Friday. It took about 5 minutes to get out of my parking space and I couldn't get out of the lot to my apartment bldg. (unplowed packed sn-ice, w/ emergency vehicles blocking aisles and forcing careful driving (long story)). After getting half-stuck about 3 times in 100 yards, I just reparked it. My car would spin the tires at idle in 3rd gear! Summer tires 0wN3d me

Saturday morning. Tried to get my car up the road. Let it idle in first gear, got out pushed the car a bit, kicked the spinning wheel, almost fell on my A**. Got back in turned it off, walked home

Friday and Saturday wasn't too bad....except I did get stuck in my parking lot. I was lucky that the guys sanding the area hooked me up with some sand. Does this mean we just suck at driving in the snow?? Oh yea I hear its going to snow again on Wednesday...this time I have a shovel.

maybe a little freezing rain, that's all.

And as for us sucking, keep in mind a) we don't do this every day like people in those godforsaken cold places; b) we don't run all season tires; and c) we don't have the best snow removal systems.

Until Sat. afternoon, my parking lot was a sheet of packed snow/ice.

fvck the shovel - I got a metrocard

Hehe, Hippo, that sounds like me the other day. The roads are all dry now, but due to trees and the lack of plowing, our back alley is packed snow and ice. Getting in and out can take many times longer than it should when my summer kuhmo's get stuck in a minor groove. Contrast that with driving in Milwuakee last winter on roads with 6" of snow over ice with a set of snow tires. It was actually pretty enjoyable since I never really worried about getting stuck and as there was virtually no one on the road it was pretty safe to hang the ass end out around some corners. Man I miss that. Too bad my gf's altima is the designated snow car this winter. It's got my snow's on it while my car sleeps through the salty months.
