Electric boost gauges
They suck. I've been through two now and both of them are super delayed and not sensitive enough. Don't know why I even wasted my money on them. Should have just stuck with the tried and true mechanical boost gauge.

The wiring does matter so make sure its done right, also the length of vacuum tubing running to it should be as short as possible for response

Are you using ProSport gauges? If so, the problem isn't it being an electric gauge, the problem is that ProSport sucks. All 3 of mine have failed over the course of 3 years. If Nissan can make gauges that work for 20+ years, why can't these fuck sticks make one that lasts 5.
If it isn't ProSport, disregard this.

I'm running the defi red racer. Re wired it yesterday and shortened the ground and it still sucks balls. Also shortened the vacuum line a whole lot as well. I've seen YouTube videos of the red racer and they seem to be extremely responsive. I have a feeling that I bought a lemon.

I don't know about the Defi. The AEM takes a reference barometric pressure when the car is turned to the on position. Then stores it while the key is turned to start. If they are wired together it will reset while the ignition is in the start position then try to grab it while the car is running and be way off.
I picked the AEM because it uses the GM 3 bar map that they use in there MAP/IAT conversion kit. I was never impressed with the black box sensor that came with other boost gauges I tried.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, i've always been under the impression that the boost gauge becomes inaccurate if you shorten the vaccum hose.

Defi's do not need to be programmed. My Defi's are going on 6yrs old now, they work flawlessly and I've never had an issue with them.

Call Defi and see if you can trouble shoot. Perhaps you received a faulty gauge. Have you tried disconnecting all the other gauges and running just the boost gauge to the control unit?
