moving to texas...
Hey everyone. I am currently a Penn State Senior and looking at moving to Texas upon graduation. I am split between Dallas/Ft Worth, Houston, and Austin. I am a Health Policy Administration major, with a minor in IST in healthcare. (Eccentially I am looking for an administration job or data analysis in healthcare job) I would like to know the drift scene down in Texas and other hobbies that will be available. Seems like dirtbiking may be a new hobby I would like to expore. I do endless google searches on areas and coming from Long Island, New York I have come to learn that salt water fishing seems out of the question. Any insite will be helpful. I graduate in May so I have much time to figure out my plan but Texas is at the top of my list second is Tenessee, then Arizona, Colorado and Florida. Please feel free to post or private message me with information.

I plan on staying far away from El Paso. I like big cities and there are a lot of healthcare facilites In those areas I mentioned.. And what made you choose Houston?

My Uncle moved to Houston a few years ago then so did my dad maybe 2yrs ago,So i figured ill give it a try since i want to move out of NYC. Just want to start fresh where its little cheaper to live and start a new life. I'm going to be doing mechanic work. Soo finding work shouldn't be too hard if you can show your skills i guess. But i would like to go back to school to take up something less hands on.
I visited earlier in the year around the time the rodeo was happening,That event is great. Im going back for another visit this fall to do some more research on good living areas, jobs, schools, etc

hey man born in raised in texas, my family is from everywhere! I prefer Austin over the others. Austin has more live music, comedy, clubs, and jobs! Austin motto is, Keep Austin weird! Plus its centrally located between all the other cities. 1 drive your in San Antonio, 3 hrs your watching the Cowboys, 4 hrs your watching the Texans. 3 hrs south your in Corpus or South Padre. The food, BBQ all year around, with Tex Mex!

Hmm thanks all for the insight sounds like each area can still be an option. Does anyone have any negative things about each area.I heard Houston has the highest crime rate out of all of them and traffic is horrendous and Dallas isn't much better. San Antonio keeps seeming more attractive as well but don't know the negative characteristics of some of these cities. How do car laws go regarding inspection and emissions?

Austin is getting Formula 1 next year.
I vote Austin. I was born in Galveston, but only lived there for a few years, went back and it was terrible. There are some really nice upscale areas in Houston, you don't have to live in the city to work there. |

haha good point sir. Formula D is overrated but it is great for exposure for this sport. And Texas Motor speedway is definetly a plus. Looks like I may have to just apply and see whos offer me first but DFW and Austin look like the top 2. Would be nice to live in dallas and sport around my giants gear <3. But for serious thanks for all the insight guys I really can't thank your insight enough. I cant wait to come visit ech area and see for myself, with job growth over 11% it sounds like work will not be as hard, but I will continue to keep networking till I get something finally locked in.

DFW FTW!! We have Texas Motor Speedway, and I'd like to see the price to run events at COA which is a brand new F1 spec track, I don't think anyone who drifts has enough money to do that... Besides, there's proly more people here with 240's anyways, just not me cuz my car broke 3 days before I left California for TCU

I live in North Austin and love it.
Pros: Centrally located. (from other TX cities) Cheapish living. Great Music Scene Easy to get places quickly with the toll road infrastructure. Decent local economy Formula 1! Cons: No super close tracks Traffic (although better than DFW/FW/Houston) Ass backwards smoking laws Wildfires LOL |

^Now that is what I am looking for. Do you know if there are good hospitals and schools in Austin? If anyone can do a pro/con on other cities that would be helpful. Also how are the roadways for travel, I lived in Northern Virginia and they by far have the worst system on the planet. I'm sure I could have walked to DC faster some days and travel to work will be an absolute necessity or else Im getting rid of my 6 speed tacoma. Also how are gas prices down there?

LOL!
A quick search on Wikipedia just showed they aren't allowed to smoke inside places. That's the same way that it is in many places. Washington and Oregon did that about 10 years ago, and I know there are quite a few other places too. Is there something more than what I'm reading? Because it's going to be that way everywhere soon. |

Man DFW is the Place to be! We have had a Drift Event in Mineral Wells Each month for the Past 2-3 years and only $40-50 bucks to drift all day! when the guys set up the track with the crazy strait speeds reach in to the 90's for entry speeds! and now we have some months sense thie spring were we have 2 drift events a month one By Fabricated motor sports and the other by Baileys Hyperfarmance!
And now with 3 Drift events @ Texas Motor Speed Way! We also have XDC this month! So DFW gets my vote! |

i live in victoria but im in austin almost every other weekend. the scene is great and there is always something to do, but i havent spent much time in DFW except for events at mineral wells which is always a blast. i would go with austin since it is in the middle of everything and there are almost as many drift events in houston as there are at mineral wells. im 6hrs away from DFW, 2 from austin, and 1.5 from houston. victoria is a fckin joke
