Ka24e intermittently dies at 4500 or 3500 rpm

I tried searching and it yielded no results

Trying to get on the freeway yesterday in 3rd gear and the car completely fell on its face and lost all power at 4500. Tried again in 4th and also died at 4500 rpm. I tried it today and I got it to go past 4500 in neutral and 1st through 3rd but started dying at 3500 in 3rd and 4th shortly after. The car idles fine and feels strong otherwise. Maf was cleaned about a week ago. Odometer also works intermittently so I was thinking it could be related to the speed sensor? Thanks ahead of time for any help or other ideas.

you either have a bad speedometer or speed sensor

forgot to ad that it has a digital cluster and the speedo doesn't work either. I'm new to the digital setup and figured it was a common thing to fail but maybe its related and a speedo/sensor issue like you said.

Ok so after looking under the car, I found that the speed sensor is unplugged, but, the connector on the speed sensor and the only connector on the harness that is anywhere near it are not compatible. After some more searching the only conclusion I can come up with is that I might have an s14 tranny or s14 speed sensor. Is there a way to hardwire the sensor and if so will the speedo be accurate? Thanks again for any help guys.

May be... Dont know if the speed sensor on a s14 puts out a different pulse signal per revolution it spins. You sure it wont fit? Look around the bell housing on the tranny, is there anykind of hole, or a sensor? S14 trannies come with a Crank Angle Sensor on the bell housing. That will be the dead give away if it is a s14 tranny.

Even if its not an s14 tranny it could still be a s14 speed sensor right? I had a s13 speed sensor in my s14 tranny and it fit so I assume it would work the other way as well?

Not sure, never tried that. If it fit in your old one. then i guess there compatible with either. get ahold of a s13 speed sensor or splice up the one you have.

ok soooo, I'm retarded. Speed sensor is plugged in, I was told that the plug I was looking at is the 5th gear sensor. I cleaned the maf, and checked the fuel filter. The only thing I noticed is that the sensor on the maf is slightly corroded so I sprayed it with some electrical cleaner but the car is still cutting out. This time it did it at 4000 and still had no response until it was down to 3000.

Awesome. Ill look into figuring out why mine doesn't work and see if I can repair it, or replace it if not. Ill update if I get it working.

same thing was happening to mine. i would hit the dash and it would work for a little. i think it was just the speedo going out because i got a new one and it works perfect

ok you said the maf was cleaned what was used to clean it? some cleaners will leave a coating on the hot wire in the maf cause it to give false air readings which will chock out the eng.
