blowing 150amp fuse while trying to turn the key over
i own a 1992 nissan 240sx coupe with a sr20 swap. Im having problems getting it started. When i try and turn the car over, it cranks for about 2 seconds, then blows the 150amp fuse thats inline with the battery(which is located in the back, 4g wire). Car was just runnning fine a day ago, now keeps blowing the fuse. Can someone please help me out!!!!?? thanks!

4AWG wire is too small to support 150A safely. You'll want to upgrade to a 2AWG wire most definitely. Make sure the ground cable is also 2AWG or larger.

yea that's what ppl are telling me. I was using tthis thick stereo cable which was working fine up unitll 2 days ago. Then all of a sudden, i tried to turn the key over and it cranked for about 2-3secs then popped the fuse. kinda sounded like its not sending enough power from the battery to the engine or maybe the starter is drawing to much power?? So i just switched it to the 4g because i had some lying around, cranked for about 1second then popped the fuse again. Any ideas what could be causing the fuse to blow?

You probably killed your battery ... With just one element dead, you get 2V less, meaning more amps for the same power. And then your fuse goes boom.
So: 1/ get a new battery 2/ get bigger cables You can also go wild and use a small lifepo4 battery that you wont have to relocate in the trunk. Mine fits nicely where the oem battery was, weights 3lbs, and let me use the windscreen washer filler AND lets my intercooler piping goes by. Pick it carefully though. Mine can crank out 600amps, not all can. And stay away from earth X, ballistic and yuasa, they lie on specs with a stupid "Lead/acid equivalent" (PbEq). a 4AH battery is a 4AH battery, not a 24AH "PbEq" ... same lie goes for max amp. |
