Leaky Injector

Fair quote?
I got a 91 300zx and I realized I was only running on 5 cylinders, my 2 injector was no good.
I took it to the mechanic and they gave me a quote of 900$ does that sound about right? |

Its 900 to change the injector. I knew from the start they were. Bs it cause they said they have to remove the whole front end of the engine and that it takes 9 hours to get it all done in labor? They're just gonna replace 1 injector whitch is like 150$ labor shouldn't be 800$? Fuck that!

They just dont want to do it, so they gave you a stupidly high quote. 1 injector should be around 50 to 80$, tops . These arent state of the art direct injectors.

Honestly, that sounds about right. A bit on the high side, but still within the ballpark. I guess it really depends on where you brought the car and their labor rates. Changing an injector on a VQ in a serious pain in the ass. Z32's have an extremely tight engine space and getting to the simplest of things is no easy task.
If you feel your getting jipped, take it to another shop, ask them what it'll cost to replace an injector. Or do it yourself and see where that $900 would have gone. |
