Time on the track?
Quote:
Was it like going to an SCCA autocross or was it a drift day with open track time?
I did 'grip'
Running half the track, ~2 hours of track time was enough for ~140miles on track (heh.. that gives an average speed of 70, which feels pretty right!)
On some more exclusive events, 180-200 miles has been possible in 4-5 hours of on track time (augh.. $$gas$$; 8mpg). Based on past track exposures, I was left with the feeling that it could have been better.. but with the number of people, it was the only thing possible.

Quote:
How it was run?
Quote:
Did the thunderhill staff keep things running smoothly or was it a big cluster fsck out there? Don't forget time spent OFF the track, tech, registration etc etc
Registration was a kluge; it pushed the paper schedule off by 30min. What more, some required paramedics didn't show up until 9am. I'm of the impression that right when the track officials permit cars on the track, cars should be on the track. Attendees are paying to drive the car at the track, and they should receive as much track time as possible. I'd loved to have seen a grid in the hot pits at 8am

Quote:
Safety?
Quote:
Did you see any unsafe things going on there? Spectators too close to your J turn? Unsafe passing etc etc ?
I saw that the skid pad area was in shambles.. paths cars had to take to get back into the long line put them in harms way. Spectators were too close and too dense for not having any barriers nearby. Maybe if the water had been utilized more, maneuvers could have been kept at lower speeds.

The paddock had some un-moderated crossings and lanes where I felt like I was at times in imminent danger.. maybe if the speeds lower, this wouldn't have been a concern.. always had to keep an eye out for the car that was late to its run group and needed to get a good place in line

Quote:
What did you like about the event most?
Driving on the track with a wide array of vehicles (the fast ones, in particular!); M3s, FDs, Sti, RX8, Evo, 350Z.. Miata

The corner workers were AWESOME, and the track was in generally very good condition (little obstructive dirt from the 'offs' remained on the track for very long)

Quote:
What did you least like about the event?
I *hated* seeing/hearing people speeding in the paddock.. and what I hated even more, was hearing thunderhill officials using the PA system to remind people (spectators and drivers) that they're being idiots (sitting on emergency vehicles at one point, even.. wtf?!) ...still more I didn't like about the event, but that might make me seem like a bitter elitist :ghey:.
I really wouldn't be surprised if Thunderhill declined a request to host another drift-inclusive event, and I would be surprised if they decided to host another.

What did you guys think of the event?

I thought the event was very well organized considering it was the first time this group did a drift event at thunderhill.

Time on the track? Was it like going to an SCCA autocross or was it a drift day with open track time?

A little of both. I though it was cool that we constantly got to do something due to the switching of stations. But I think it would've been good if we had a chance to rest for a little while. Seemed like the acition never stopped.

How it was run? Did the thunderhill staff keep things running smoothly or was it a big cluster fsck out there? Don't forget time spent OFF the track, tech, registration etc etc

The registration was kind of a clusterfuck. But it was understandable considering there were shitloads of people. Maybe have more people working the registration desk? Everything else was fairly organized.

Safety? Did you see any unsafe things going on there? Spectators too close to your J turn? Unsafe passing etc etc?

Didn't see anything really unsafe...

What did you like about the event most?

I liked the fact that we finally had a drift event in Norcal since DD6. My car was in the shop for DD6, so I didn't get to run. But I got to all day for this event. It was very fun and I learned a lot.

What did you least like about the event?

I didn't like FF ass clowns who tried to do donuts by going in reverse and ended up fucking up their car. *cough* fake evo *cough*

thank you, me and my friends are awesome.

FYI: thunderhill is working to rearrange their current schedule to support more drift events, they are begging NCDA to come back and hold another event. (yes bay area, there will be more)
* S U R P R I S E!* hal

thanks for your reply halz, NCDA will try to improve in everyway so everyone will be happy. or atleast they'll try. once again you have to be remided that this was NCDA's first event. it WILL get better with more experience. NCDA staff is only trying to get the bay area together and have some fun like socal does. lets work together and help NCDA. send your feedback and let them know what they should do and shouldnt do for the next event.

Amazing. All this drama over one black mitsu. I guess some ppL just need someone 2 hate.

One word of advice to TRUENOCOUPE. You lied, hated and ripped your friends off before I even knew you. There are so many ppL hoping to just bump into you, I'd lay low and not compound the issue. Only a matter of time b4 one of your former friends just snaps. I swear, some ppL act like they got a death wish. Good Luck, Ivan...

Is your definition of an FF drift monster someone who lines up to do backwards donuts hella times, proceeds to not do shit but burn the shit out of his clutch?

Check out this vid for a REAL FF drift monster who will be in upcoming D1 events.

I still haven't figured out when this thread got jacked and focused on Some Dumb Ass in a Wannabe EVO who was making more noise than actually drifting, and Al.
