What do you miss from 1999/2000 +/- 2 years
You can only talk about shit that happened between 1997/2002.
Specifically things you miss. I miss living in a world pre-9/11. I miss the IT job market not being flooded by underqualified over certified people thanks to MicroSkills. I miss drifting when no one knew about it. I miss hooking up with chicks on the internet back when there really were women on the internet. I miss my hotmail account spammed to death because of all the forums I was on that sold my information. I miss the world pre-world of warcraft. I miss making money on ebay selling Diablo2 items.

idk, I'd say those were fairly non-memorable years.
it was around, or slightly after the time of the dot com bust. the economy wasn't the best, iirc. (but much better compared to today). cars available at the time weren't really all that great (ppl drove suv's at the time). when going car shopping at the time, the 'Integra Type R' was about the most interesting affordable japanese car. '02 or '01 did release the WRX and the S2k, so things were improving. Good thing was that there weren't any scenester/emo chicks around with horrid overdone make-up. You didn't have chicks wearing their hair swept to one side. Pre-WoW (if you can even call WoW a good thing, I just think it was a huge waste of time), was actually pretty buggy in the earlier years. I actually preferred it with the expansions. Music wasn't my favorite during the 97-00 years. The 'rap-rock', pop-punk, & nu-metal groups were popular at the time. indie rock was evolving but not exactly at a good point. Was a forgettable period for me. Wasn't the best of times, but not exactly the worst either. |

I miss when being emo wasn't a way of life
When a pager was the norm. Learning how to drift, and having noone know wtf I was doing |

Turn of the century was fucking awesome!
Nobody can deny this. Maybe it was all the optimism accompanying the run up to the year 2000...I don't know. Some random things I miss from back then: - The rave scene. - Good movies like Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, and the first Matrix. - cruising on State Street. - No 9/11 Face it, when 9/11 happened and George Bush took over the fun died. |

Those where high school years for me. I miss not having all these damn responsibilities as I do now. I miss just cruising in my Town Car and not caring about gas because it was so damn cheap. I miss high school girls a lot
Good times.

If you enjoyed traveling outside of the country,
this was a wonderful time. The dollar was pretty strong. Europe either didn't have the goddamn Euro, or it wasn't so expensive. South American currencies were pretty weak. Of course, it wasn't too expensive to fly either ($300 could get you a RT ticket to London). I could afford to take 2-3 vacations a year, and not break the bank. My company was pretty lax w/ vaction time too. I spent approx 1 month abroad every year. |

graduated in '98. moved from guam to l.a. in '99 for college and have lived here for 10 yrs independently.
what i miss most: mom's home cooking, as well as real island food in general family gatherings for the holidays. only been back a handful of times and never during peak holiday airfare rates. the crystal-clear waters of the philippine sea on one side of the island, pacific ocean on the other. the beach waters were 70-80 degrees epic surfing just before a typhoon. lol h.s. days cruising in my 85 s12 200sx, being revved at by ricer honda fools then laughing as i left them behind when they couldn't take a corner with their bouncy cut springs. lol |

I miss punctuation.
That was still popular to use in 2000. 10 years later, not so much.

i miss having two VCR's and a video stabilizer. had racks of VHS.
i miss coding shitty little websites by hand just to try out HTML. i miss opening Nerf guns in my parents' basement and modding the shit out of them, then taking them to nerf wars and bruising the shit out of my friends. i miss hanging out on message boards with black backgrounds and animated fire gifs all over the place and stuff. and Angelfire, and Geocities, and Tripod. i miss designing Doom levels with built in cheater walls and warps and shit, taking a copy to school on a floppy disc for my friends, and then wailing on them in direct-dial death matches after school. oh, and new episodes of Futurama on tv, but that'll be back soon.

Pre - 9/11.
High school sports. Probably the only thing I wholly enjoyed about it. Getting excited about shit I just can't anymore as an adult. haha Movies were better My old dog. Hip hop and music in general had not been entirely fucked and destroyed yet. I could go on. Quote:
It's not that hard folks.

splinter cell 1, looking forward to turning 21 as every birthday before and after is a waste of time unless your 16 and on mtv, parties because you are not married yet or have kids, teaching a BBoy class at an alternative school, being skinny because of skateboarding even though you are on peanut butter and toast "diet", not having to stretch before gymnastics,
and of course 7 simple words, "you will not tried as an adult". |
