dive plates / canards / splitters / bumper fins / whatever. ive seen so many different terms for these.
i think they look cool but only on aftermarket bumpers and only if they are big. i HATE the freaking little gay 3 inch triangles that they sell on ebay for like 5 cents. like the ones on that s15 front car. looks so stupid. http://press.nissan-global.com/COMMO.../gt2004_03.jpg http://www.zandbak.net/2005/luik/Img_0023.jpg http://www.geocities.jp/turfshot/FB4C7207.jpg etc |

Just to clarify, splitters are not the same as canards. Canards are the triangular fins you attach on either end of your bumper, like in the black s14 PHLIP posted. They get their name from the small wings found on the noses of some planes. A splitter is a thin, horizontal piece that generally attaches to the bottom of the bumper and extends from one side to the other. The red 350Z JGTC car has both, one canard on either side and a splitter running the width of the bumper. The purpose of the splitter is to reduce the amount of air that gets under the car by 'splitting' the airflow ahead of the bumper. A splitter is not a diffuser, either. A diffuser goes under the back of the car to generate downforce. This is a diffuser:
