like every other motor, just throwing on a z32 maf is not "plug n play". So yeah, youll need a tune of some sort.

Being new to the rbmotor, and the s13 alone, I'm a little confused on my tuning options. I've heard a safc from apexi was a good start but I'm still not clear on what all it covers. I'd like to turn my boost up a little in the near future as well. Obviously I need to have the right setup. I don't want anything crazy maybe 10 to 12 psi.

Luckily, the stock rb20 wastegate is regulated to just over 10 psi so adding another 2 or 3 on top of that would not be a problem for the motor and stock management. Unfortunately, a stock motor reaches its power ceiling quick bc the fuel injectors are so small (270cc) and reach 100% duty cycle at about 240whp, allegedly way before the stock mafs maxes out.

An safc can be a little tricky, bc allegedly they unintentionally mess with timing. A better, and still affordable solution would be a rom tune of some sort where the a/f ratios and timing can be managed independently.

It might be a lot of money to throw down at one time but I would recommend installing larger fuel injectors, larger mafs and engine management together. Otherwise, just play with the stock motor. Im sure 240whp can make a pretty fun street car.

Sounds like you know your stuff. When I bought the car with the swap already done it came with a slightly bigger front mount ic an apexi bov and so 3 in exhaust. It loves to backfire after getting on it a little bit then letting so Ive been concerned about the tune already.

The back fire, is because of the Bov... The Maf sensor still senses the air going in, telling the injectors to put fuel into the engine, but because of the Bov, the air is not going into the engine. The recirculation system that came stock works because it feeds the turbo causing it to suck less air through the Maf so it does not send a false signal to the injectors.

Just thought you might want to know.
