Great Event!! Good to see lots of people improving. I also liked the new layout, but maybe a bit more entry speed would make things more interesting. Thanks to JXN and the 626 crew! with that said......

There will be no video from me unless I can figure out this dropped frame issue.

I'm trying. One article said that the FCP capturing software wasn't all that great, and they suggested using another program.
The MAC website suggests that it's a hardware issue, and the hard drive may have low disk space. Eric, do you know if recording HD on a non-HD tape makes a difference? I've heard that it can cause dropped frames, but the chances are not high. The problem I'm having right now is frequently dropped frames, and it only seems to be getting worse.

^ do you have enough memory space?
I know when I have too much video saved, it will drop frames when uploading and also when I have to many programs opened, internet and such.

It's a 250gb hardrive, I have 60gb left. There is 1gb of RAM, which may be insufficient for HD.
But, it's not only dropping frames when I playback in Final Cut, it's also dropping them when I finalize the video and output it to Quicktime format.

Try shutting down all programs and erase some of the retarded stuff you have saved that you really don't need.

Hmm I captured it in 1080i50 rather than 1080i60. Could re-capturing it in 1080i60 resolve it?

Hmm, nevermind. I just took a look and I did capture it in 1080i60, at 29.97 fps. WTF.

If you recorded at 30FPS, then import that way.
Sounds like you dont have enough disk space Teddy. HD needs alot. If your exporting to youtube and shit, dont waste the space recording HD. Is a shitload of info that not only gets tossed out, but need compressed and rendered. Waste of space on the hard drive. You need a external drive. then your computer can function better. Because it should be fine on the tape. Can you play the tape back on the camera wiht no problem?? then its good. Its the computer not being able to handle it. You need empty space on the memory to do that stuff. 1 Terabyte external harddrive will solve your problem. All the clips you arent using, erase. All the extra crap you dont need on the computer, erase. All the photos that have been uploaded or arent that great, erase All your soft rock on the computer, erase. Close all programs but what your using. And try again. Work on one clip. try and get 20 seconds to load right. then, once that works, start trying to get the whole project to work. |

what eric said^ 1gb is pretty tough for hd editing.
also, most people recommend using quad core PCs for HD editing. if possible, try to export the footage in SD instead of HD if you have that feature (my hv30 does). and, if you still want to work on hd and the pc can't handle it, try uploading the footage on a friend's faster computer, save it to a hard drive.. then hook it back up to your pc, edit the video using "bait and switch method" or "proxy editing" (basically you're working with a lower quality file so your computer can handle it then you switch it back to hd for rendering) i've been using sony vegas premium for hd editing and exporting to 720p for youtube and vimeo and i haven't ran into any problems, but its still f'n slow. it takes about 10-15 minutes to render a 1-5 minute hd video on a 2.0 ghz dual core and 2 gigs of ram. here's some sites i used for tips... I hope next time I at least get some ride-a-longs. Maybe even try drifting.

But people...dont be shy to ask for an instructor in your car, or a ride along with them to see how we take a line. I would have to say out of all events, this one people learned much faster...and I had plenty of people ask for an instructor which is great. as you can see...this group progressed much faster than any other groups i've seen yet. well done 626 staff! |
