Right now the ait box is off. You can see the hole where the filter and box were.
You talking about this? I probably will go that route since I do plan on riding the bike a lot. I don't know how safe if would be to drive around with no filter for a long time.

So do I just leave it open the way it is?

It should be buried enough not to be exposed to the elements, bolted onto the carb. K&N was originally invented for motorcycle racing...
Are you getting another front fender?

New pics of the seat progress. Shit is looking waaay better. I finally found the right tool for the job. I tried a bread knife, a hand sander (not an orbital one though), sandpaper by itself, and a wire wheel. Then I see my Wagner Paint Eater sitting there and decide to try that. BINGO. Not only does it take off a lot of material if you want it to, it can be very precise also. It also smoothed out the whole thing very nice. I'm pretty sure this will be the final shape. I'm thinking about cutting the lower half of the seat/plastic to make it more flat instead of that curved look. But for the seat part it's pretty much what I was lookin for. And here you can see how much differently shaped it is now compared to a stock one. I should be finishing up some work for a client in the next week and a half hopefully. That money is going entirely to the bike. Tires, paint, battery, and clip-ons... More to come soon.

Some more work done over the last few days.
First thing is I had to fill in the area on the tank where the Yamaha emblem was. There was a clipy thing that the emblem screwed on to. First I mixed up some Mar-Glass which I've never used before. Some pretty interesting stuff. It's like hard candy before it gets hard. A couple layers of it. I'm new ot bodu work so I was just kinda winging it. Random cool pic. Got the tank sanded down nice and smooth. Needs some more work but it's about 80% there. Then those lights dangling were bothering me as well as the two big ol horns and front turn signals. Removed those. That's where I'm at now. Gonna finish the tank over the weekend hopefully.

I'm either gonna find new fenders or go without. The stock fenders are horrible.

Can you get different rims?
I think that would make a huge difference since the tank still sits at a slant. let the filter stick straight out the side. can you modify the fenders?? |

Marglass. Filler with fiberglass in it. The good stuff.

The fenders are pretty horrible. If anything I'll buy some cafe type fenders from another bike and put them on.

Moar progress.
I'm getting close to being finished filling in the area on the tank. Needs a little more work but it's getting there. It's primered gray in the pic. I hung it from a tree to make it easier to paint. Worked at the seat moar. I think the main problem was how the bottom of it swepted downward. It really threw it off. So I chopped that up and made it straight. There's some more finishing work to make it perfect though. And once the vinyl is over it you won't see anything. I'm not worried about the space between the frame. I'll either leave it or fill it with something minimal. Here's the tank and seat together as a whole.

I'm really happy with the positive feedback I've gotten from the work I've done. I've posted on a couple other websites and everyone has been really stoked about my progress. All my friends are really looking forward to me finishing it up so I can come riding with them.

If you don't get new rims, at least clean and paint the ones you have. The green bike on the first page has those wheels, and they don't look like a burning pile of dicks.
Keep up the good work! |

Rims are getting painted for sure. If you look at them the area that is silver will be matte black and then the rest will be gloss black.

Actually I forgot I have to modify the whole assembly that holds my headlight, and turns signals first. I'm gonna try to do that today and see where I get. Pics soon though.
