Rb25 transmission option!!!
So it's a little dirty secret that you can use the later turbo z31 5 spd with a rb 20/25 bell housing. and all of a sudden turbo examples are becoming harder to find now. so the next thing iam looking into is the Nissan d21/hardbody 5 spd option.
I know later year v6 models have the 30a transmissions. my question is has anyone actually used one of these trannies out of the truck? bell housing/long shifter aside is there any compatibility issues?? I need to know for sure before I take the plunge. I know it's a long shot but has anyone on here done this?? http://z31.com/transmission.shtml "The king daddy of the Z31 manual transmissions is the FS5R30A. This transmission is the same design as the transmission used in the Z32 300ZX models. Only the gear ratios are different. There are Z32s running these transmissions with well over 600 horsepower and are not blowing them up. There are supposedly a few short throw shifters that will work with this transmission. They are usually the cheaper/generic short throws made for the FS5W71C. A lot of people take the stick apart and cut a small section out of it to give the shifter a shorter height. This does shorten the distance travelled, but it does not actually shorten the throw. "

Pretty sure not 100%, but the n/a z32 have the same internals as the trannies you mentioned. They are pretty cheap and easy to find. You would have to look more into it but I know I have read and been told they have the same internals.

Swap the bellhousing from the RB25 to the Z32.

Yes you can, ive personally done it.. all the bearings gears etc are the same the only thing thats different is the shifter and the output shaft is a different length. Turbo and non turbo Z32 trannies are the same internally, the only difference is the bellhousing.. the turbos have a bit more clearance due to the larger clutch The RB25 Neo trannies are not the same as Z32 trannies internally |

then it's the shifter position that's the issue. I don't want to mess with an adapter kit. I just want to swap bell housings and be done!!
