Speedo not functioning.

Alright so when my car had the KA in it, the speedo worked perfectly. I swapped in my SR and it hasn't worked since. The previous owner told me I needed to replace the speed sensor. Picked one of those up off the forums and put it in today, no dice.

I also bought from Wiring Specialists the proper harness for an SR20 manual swapped convertible.

Being the gauge cluster worked the day I took the KA out, I can't imagine it just happened to take a crap at the exact moment I did a swap (and I may add the swap took a week, so it didn't have much down time)

Is it possible I missed plugging something in? Is there a fuse that takes care of just the speedo? Are there any wires I should specifically check?

Matt

did you change from auto to stick.. if so, they have different speed sensors. I have a convertible and still have a problem. I have a sr with a 96 s14 5 speed transmission.. it reads half of what it should...

The car was swapped to manual prior to me purchasing it. When I owned it at first with the original KA engine, the speedo worked perfectly fine.

Swapped in the SR because I had an undiscoverable misfire, and the speedo doesn't work.

Basically, everything was perfect as a manual transmission, put the SR in, and it's no beans now.

Sounds like the wiring to the speed sensor got damaged somehow. You'll need to trace it from the sensor all the way up to see if there are any irregularities.

I'd also like to add that sometimes my brake light on the dash stays on, I have to open and close my door a bunch of times and smack the dash to get it go off once in a while.

Hmm. Check the contact points in back of the gauge cluster. Guaranteed you have loose or weak connections back there.

Whatcha talkin bout Willis?

You mean plugs into the cluster, screws into the tach/speedo etc, or the soft circuit portion?

I got some dumb cluster shit goin on myself.

did you make sure to put the gear on the end of the speed sensor?

Refer to page 78 of the Electrical System (EL) in your FSM for troubleshooting procedure.

Soft circuit portion and the plugs that hold the bulbs sometimes lose contact from being old and worn. I've had it happen on my clusters, its not easy to diagnose unless you really inspect it well.

I'll pull out the cluster and see if there's something up, the wires leading from the sensor seem fine. I'll pull the cluster itself out tomorrow and check 'er out
