Cusco Diff
Ive had the MZ 2-way for about 2.5 yrs. change the fluid on a reg. bases.
So i changed my diff fluid about two weeks ago getting ready for a comp. Drive 80 mi to get there. When i get there its makeing this noise like its trying to bind. It seams to be doing so when it gets hot then relaxes after cooling down. Ok, so i look at the bottle when i get back and notice that its just gear oil, not diff oil. Is this realy that bad?? The thing thats bothering me is its still binding when the clutch is in. Even if the car is in nutral... I know the clutch is on its way out. I have a new one, but im waiting for the motor to get finshed getting built before i put it on. Could this be a possablity?? The clutch not engageing all the way?? im changeing the fluid today to see if it helps. Anyone ever have any experance like this?? Is the diff just shot and need replaceing?? Sorry for my spelling, my work doesnt have firefox. |

Changing the fluid didnt help. But that could have been due to the fact that the damage was allready done.
So 22ppl looked and no one has any input.. any would be appreciated. |

Gear Oil diff oil same thing
were there any metal shaving in the oil? What oil are you using? Is it a grind or a chatter? does it only happen when turning? or all the time? grinding all the time sounds like the bearings are damaged Chatter when turning is normal. you can try an LSD additive, they sell some at advance, its suppose to quiet down the Diff

Sounds like it is shot. When you drained it, what did the fluid look like? Did it have an odor or weird color? Anything in the fluid like shavings or filings?

The fluid did smell a lil burned and had changed color to a gray.
Im useing Klotz gear oil in it. as far as metal shavings, it was clean. Well normal, your always going to get some fine stuff stuck to the magnet. Its deffentally not chatter. Sounds like gears grinding. Its only when i turn. Even just comeing to a stop at a red light SLIGHTLY turning to go right. I swithched from a 75-90 to a 75-145 and it seams to have helped some. I never thought about the bearings... Thanks for helping me trobble shoot this. |

Gray fluid means it's heavily mixed with metal. You need to drop it anyway, pull it out and inspect the bearings, if they're good than start looking for a rebuild kit or a new diff.
