burning about a quart a month. Lots of oil in the exaust manifold. what could be causeing this? Bad pistion rings?

Rings. Oil is getting past them into the cylinders.

i highly doubt a pcv will burn that much

Yes, a bad PCV could burn that much a month.

You need to do a leak down test to figure out what your problem is for sure.
