S14 a/c fan only works on highest setting

My 96 240sx a/c fan only works when it is on the highest setting #4. 1-3 doesnt turn the fan on. Ive had this on some other 240s ive owned but never knew why. Is the Climate Control unit itself broken?

Same problem here! Need fix as well. on a 97.

I was told it's a bad resistor? Full blast(4) dosent need any voltage resistance so that why it would work??. Like I said though, that's just what someone told me. I'm sure im completely wrong!

No. I would actually agree with you. Most cars/trucks do have resistors for the blower. Most people think it's from slow to fast but it's actually from fast to slow. The resistor limits the power running through the circuit to make the blower turn slower. I would assume this would be the same case for the S chassis but not 100% sure.

So if it is a bad resistor, is the resistor in the actual climate control unit?

It shouldn't as it needs it's own housing due heat. I believe on the S13 its' right next to evap behind the glove box. I think it's a 4 wire and should also be connected to the blower.

We've talked about this for over a decade kids.

Blower resistor. About $20 new. Mounted to the bottom side of the blower case.

Search next time.

It looks like a small credit card when you pull it out. Just get it replaced as everyone said and you'll be fine.

I thought i was having this problem too, took out the blower motor and it turned out that the foam "gasket" was getting stuck to the fan causing it to stop spinning. So I removed the foam and its perfect now! Freezing a/c on "1"

So the resistor pack is the one with the blue wires? Also my heater can work on high without the fan getting stuck, or the fan completely stop everything?
