The percentages for the people who drive them on the weekends or special days are less than 2%. But as long as its been well maintained it doesnt matter.
The idea of low miles was two things -

1 - Horrible Traffic, small country. If you are living in the city you may only ever drive 5 miles round trip to work.... but it just might take you 5 hours.

2 - "Shaken", a taxing system designed to get people to buy new cars. This met that cars quickly found themselves devalued to nothing and scrapped/exported readily.

Years ago I would believe the 30-40k mile deal on an Accord motor. Your talking about a 3-5 year old car that's spent it's life in the city. Then again city mights are some seriously hard shit.

People just need to remember THESE ARE JUNK YARD ENGINES - JUST like American Junkyard engines (which are fuck-tons cheaper). A N/A 2JZ out of a Lexus goes for $350 at the local scrap yard, seen plenty.

You're surprised stuff is broken or missing?

All the sr's you need are here in America already. Find a partout in the for sale section and buy that, or else you're going to be replacing a bunch of shit. That's just how the cookie crumbles.

I see your point, and to most who haven't spent a day in Japan, sure it makes sense as you want to believe your getting the best product. And back in the day yea, alot more S/R chassis were driven by average ppl with no intentions of modifying their car.

Couple of things I've noticed here though. The majority of people who live in metro area's don't drive to work. If you live in smaller cities it becomes a mixed bag, Public transportation ensures you're never late and save the people alot of time and money as alot of bigger companies help pay your passes.

Being friends with alot of car shop owner and their customers, people rarely junk old sports cars. When they did it was generally just the chassis and the parts were either transported to another chassis or sold to other customers. Car's I have first hand seen scraped Glanza V,(4 sided crash good engine/drive train) B13 SER Shop entry level comp car good everything) ,

Back on topic I'd pick a place close and have someone inspect what your getting. Shipping an engine isn't exactly cheap, then to get it have having issues all can be eliminated.

I got my S14 SR from them a few years back. Had great customer service and the engine was super clean inside and out. The price was fair and they were close enough for me to drive there if it would have been necessary.

Looks like they have a new website in the works.

Alright cool. Well thanks for the info guys, I just got done pulling my RB20 out so I am just waiting to get my funds up to order a SR, I might try and take a trip up to the place you where talkng about sncs14 it's not that far of a drive. I am gonna take my time and clean up my engine bay and possibly repaint it and get rid of the surface rust on the frame rails.

there's also jspecauto in central va. i've seen quite a few guys from local forums get good engines from there. they'll be about 3-4 hrs closer to jei and they're cool dudes. i've also been to jei recently and can say that they have clean motors as well. i picked up a motor for my daily from there but haven't put it in yet.

I got my sr20 from Jarco a few years ago. Last went there about 3 years ago and one of the sales guys mentioned that they got out of the JDM import business. A few of their staff members who specialized in JDM engines were gone. They were top notch, no doubt about that but it's irrelevant info now.

Thank god for Dzung at Dallas Jdm motors. Hooked me up with an s13 blacktop, 20k documented miles. Engine, ECU, harness, and tranny $1,800 flat. Compression tested along with 3 others in front of me and I got to pull apart the motor on the shop floor.

Sorry for the late reply I haven't been here at all. But I ended up going with Jdmenginedepot, I ordered a blacktop s13 from them and ended up receiving a 96-98 blacktop type x. I got it and did a compression test on the pallet motor hasn't been ran or anything since I got it keep in mine. It got 180psi dead even every cylinder. Very very clean motor, everything was fine except I was missing my ecu and ignitor which they replaced no charge. Got it in and started right up like it had been ran yesterday. Couldn't have been happier and I am not driving around in the 240 again! Thanks for the help and info though guys it helped a lot.

on a kind of off topic question, i want to swap an sr into my car but I live in an appartment that has no space how much would a shop charge to install the engine completely?

But agreed... you are absolutely right about finding a local selling the motor. Either a shop, craigslist or someone on one of the forums.

we would just go too both places amd see what had the best looking one then find chepest.

Stay away from zero lift. The absolute worst customer service anywhere. Seriously, id would order from a Canadian hooker that said she could get me a low mileage sr before I deal with zero lift again.

How was it to deal with them and how did the condition of your motor look when you got it. I assume your motor is still running?

Don't make your decision about ZL based on him alone. Go find their review thread and make your own decision. There is also J Spec Auto, elite JDM etc.

Never ordered from them, but jdmracingmotors.com looks legit. They have pictures of the motor you will receive instead of some stock photo. All their motors have compression test videos as well.

IIRC That is J Spec Autos Canadian division, or rather the other way around.

I took what seemed to be a gamble according to reviews but i just got an S14 sr20det engine and trans from http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com
i will go over the positives first and include some of my random pictures along the way, the motor arrived completly wrapped in plastic wrap and secured with steel straps on a new pallet (if you have ever gotten a shipment on an old falling apart pallet with 30 bent nails in it you know this is a plus)

anyway, the motor compression tested good, the plugs were all better looking than anything i have pulled out of any motor,
worst looking one

best one

turbo is in great condition with 0 shaft play, sorry no pic of turbine blades but no damage

the oil was not drained prior to shipping but i prefer that (i drain oil into a bucket and place a very strong magnet in the bottom and let it sit for a few days) when i pulled the magnet there was not a single shard of metal on the magnet. all hoses were intact (other than the cut aftermarket silicone radiator hoses) as were coil packs, intake manifold, injectors, belts and pulleys.

neither good or bad but a POSSIBLE sign of lower miles, the motor still had an oem clutch and flywheel with a little life left.

also no compressor but has mount and tensioner so i can still make a bracket and use the stock ka compressor

NOW FOR THE BAD! do not get a harness from them! the one i got had 20 wires cut by the ecu (some were probably turbo timer judging by aftermarket connectors on certain wires)

and another 47 cut wires (missing connectors) past the firewall in the bay.

next was that 2 of the studs holding the turbo to the manifold were broken (possibly from motor set stacking) that is about all i had trouble with. the motor is not in the car and running yet as i still have many parts to order but initial thoughts are i got a pretty good looking motor for $2450 USD shipped to my driveway in the middle of southcarolina (this included 100$ for harness and 150$ for ecu lift gate service was free) hope this helps

my s14
