1jz gte in my 240/silvia....pics
i know a lot of people may not like it...but here is my project.....plase feel free to make intellegent comments
well my project is comming along nice...i was at the shop all day yesterday working on installing the motor and tranny.... im gonna post some pics so far.... on the way to the shop clip...jzx81 5spd engine in the clip analyzing the situation dropping it in tranny bracket being made the set up is going well..the shifter is a little forward but we will cut and bend and correct it....motor mounts will be worked on in the next comming days.... since im not running a.c im going to move the engine a little forward which gives me alot more room around the engine and room to work....i will be putting my electric fans in front of the koyo radiator for extra clearance the tansmission tunnel fits the tranny just fine...a custom mount will connect to a stock s13 vlsd rear end... comments and such are welcomed...i have worked slowly on this project for over 2 years now...so its very excting to see it where it is today...hopefully running by the end of the month.. Jeff

thanks for the compliments....
i decided on the motor because ive allways had turbo 2jz engines and love the durability and power potential of the supra motors...love 6cyl torque and exahust note.......so i wanted a 2jz at 1st....but i wanted a manual car and wanted to keep prices down..this is just a fun project for street driving.....occasional road course scca fun and occasional drag fun...i want it to be an all around car..and felt the 1jz would fit my price and power wants just fine.....i want 400-500 rwhp on boost with a mid size single turbo and nitrous...like a 100 shot for fun times drag racing...... so a 1jz for 2800 complete...full clip vs a 5000-6500 2jz 6spd clip seemed more reasonable...and i can mod this motor to my power goals with the exta $$$ as i complete the mounting and get it running ill update with pics Jeff

Let us know about the ease of installation and any issues you ran once your done. I'd like to know this as well as wiring....and if your willing to make those brackets for the 240SX community.

this is going to be a one time fabrication....plus im putting my engin very forward...most people will want a/c and have theres further back....
but it is a very do able swap so far...just need a half way decent fabricator shop and you wil be able to pull it off... one thing though.you need a front sump oil pan for the 1jz....

for the tranny tunnel that was early in the day before final mark up...final position gives me plenty of room all around....
as for weight balance...there really isnt a major significant differance between the 2.4 kat and 1jz...1jz is heavier but minimaly and with no a/c up font...battery in back....it should be a wash as far as weight balance...i will scale the car later both for weight and corner balance.....also solid engine mounts will keep everything from even comming close to rotating and rubbing.... and as far as moving forward..im talking an inch or 2 forward...thats it..... Jeff

Are you doing the install yourself or do you have a shop to do it? if your doing it, are you planning on making mounting kits for this engine into the S-chassis? Im pretty sure there are some people out there who would be interested on kit.

future plans are a small to mid size single turbo and alot of suspension work.....i love all kinds of racing..so i want a set up i could take to the drag strip and hit 10s in...but i also wanna do some road racing...down here in miami theres some groups that run down at homestead miami speedway...and id really like to do that too....im not really into drifting..but i do enjoy sliding out the rear end here and there....we will see how it goes.....im not closed minded to anything with this car...
this car is just build for fun ...as a weekend toy.....my daily driver is a turbo lexus...... so i wanna set it up as a great performing all around car..... my goal is 2500lb car with 500-600 reliable rwhp lets see how close i can get Jeff

If I bought a truck I'd get a Titan (or a Ridgeline cause it's got a built in beer cooler). But I really have no use for one. Anyway sorry to get offtopic. Good Luck.

please share the info on the wiring/mounts! i wanted to turbo my 240, but then, after doing a little research, it should cost about the same to have a 1jz swapped in (doing the wiring yourself, with someone doing the fab work) as to have a sohc turbo kit. you could have more reliable streetable power from the 1jz also...good luck! i would love to follow your steps soon...heheheh
