E-fan to factory harness?
Chasis; s14
Engine; redtop I have a large aftermarket fan 14" i believe, my question is this. Could i tie into the factory fan harness to power it? not sure if the factory fan harness will still work properly ie; kicking the fan on and off as needed or if it needs to be toggled. And if it ends up needing to be toggled can i draw a 12v source from the stock harness, or do i need to find a different source. Iv read a number of different threads on similar topics but none going in the same direction i am. Appreciate the feed back! |

Yes it will. I have altima fans on my s14 and have had them wired in that way for six thousand miles now with no trouble. This includes sitting in heavy traffic with the a/c running.

yea I previously had altima fans wired tat way as well before I switched to isis fans and a dif controller that I cant program to save my life.
Stock is the easiest way for sure short of straight up to a switch

no they were wired and would go on and off like factory.
As for why altima fans, mine came with it....this is just a guess so someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I would guess its because its a cheaper way to have skinny fans? Anyways mine ended up not fitting anyways with the mishimoto radiator which is why I went with the isis shroud kit. They are asthetically nice and work well, not to mention skinnier.

For me the wires were blue(Power) and yellow(Ground) I think(I have done so much wiring this week my brain is fried).
Even if you hook them up backwards they will still work(just blow towards radiator). Just make sure you have them blowing towards the motor.

Does the fact that its an s13 motorset affect anything? I think i might have the stock Efan layin around somewhere if its going to plug in and work properly ill just do that.

I am not sure if it will "plug right in" you will probably have to hard wire.
Mine was an sr with the fans hardwired into the factory harness. I might have misunderstood you. On a side note where in indiana are you located?

well the fans should kick once once ur temp gauge gets around the half way mark. That or turn on the a/c if you have it.

No ac YET, gotta hit up codyace to get the conversion bracket for the compressor.
As to the wire colors you were saying, its a 4 wire plug, 2 solid blk wires( ground) 1 white with red stripe (12v im assuming) and a brown with white stripe (?) I was under the impression that s14's fans were ecu controlled and now that it has an s13 ecu it wouldnt send the signal to the fans. Hence why i bought an aftermarket fan This is the plug |

Altima fans cary the same harness and they fit the radiator, You do have to fab a bracket or some way to secure them. I kept the harness on one fan and wired the other one in to the same harness. They kick on and off by themselves unless I am running the A/C or defrost. 6000 miles and no issues.

Ok I was way off on the colors sorry I have seen too much wiring these past couple of weeks with all of my installs. As long as you have the factory wiring I wouldnt see y the ecu wouldnt kick it on whether it was s13 or s14. Unless somewhere in the harness that wire from the ecu has been deleted.
If all else fails get a dif fan controller. let me know if you do because I can tell you the steps to program it right that the instructions fail to mention.

Thanks for all the insight guys! Plugged up the stock fan earlier.. let it come up to temp and got nothing.. it was deff. Warm enough to have kicked the fan on, burned the shit out of my finger on the aluminum rad (I know, day 1 stuff) sooo i guess im going to have to try and wire up the aftermarket fan..
Ill break out the multimeter and see if i can get a power source from the harness.. wat am i looking at for a decent fan controller?? Im nearing the end of my initial build, just trying to tie up these loose ends so i can get this turd on the road.. The wiring for the swap was done by a very reputable local shop.. so im guessing they would know not to delete the fan signal wire.. but ill see if i can trace it as well and make sure Thanks agin for the help.. im a member of a local "scene" site and i wouldnt have had nearly this much feedback +1 rep in my book |

Get teh dif version D. It takes a bit to wire up, but it is a really nice controller it will run you about $130 or so. There is also one that people have been talking about from autozone thats pretty cheap, but thats completely up to you.
Hit me up with a pm if you get the DIF so I can help you through the missing parts of the instructions.
