Rebuilding the wheels is relatively easy but does take some time to do. In addition to the lips you will also need a sealant, a torque wrench, and some sockets. I'm afraid I don't know the exact sizes. Wheelflip sells sealant for cheap I'll probably use next time but I've always used Permatex Ultra Black in the past with no problems.

Once you have the few materials I listed, its pretty straight forward from there. Undo all the bolts on the face and use a razor to cut away any of the silicone. I've never rebuilt welded wheels so I can't give you a first person account but I believe this would be the point that you get your machine shop to cut the weld. After that, you put the new lips in place of the old ones and tighten everything up. You don't need a crazy torque for these either. I also hand tighten all the bolts, apply the sealant, and then go around setting the torque at 23-28 ft/lbs. Then smooth the sealant out with your finger. There is no need to re-weld the lips in case that was a concern.

That's really it. If you have any other questions about specific stuff, feel free to message me. I lurk this thread a lot too as I'm sure you can tell.

Thanks for the tips man! I'm working on a pair of VS-KF's right now as my first project that will end up being 19x10, -13ish once I'm done with them. I'm sure I'll be back on this thread with more questions and updates!

If you don't mind me asking, how much was it to cut the welds?

I'm widening my vskfs too...if you plan on making them true 3 piece wheels I would get the faces slotted to have more bolts holding them together...kinda sketchy only having 20 bolts instead of 40bolt like other 3 piece wheels...paid $30/wheel @VR wheels

Quick question

I have a set of weds I'm looking to go a tad wider on

Current specs
19x9.5+28
6.5 inner barrel
3 inch outter

Looking at purchasing a 10 inch barrel set up.
5.5 inner barrel
4.5 outter

What would my new offset be?

GabeS14, you still happy with the work Eric Vaughn did for you? I've talked to him about widening a pair of my wheels. He is a little backed up at the moment but thats no problem if his work is worth the wait.

Yeah his work was amazing, I sold those wheels though. He is always backed up, you gotta get him to make an appointment when he can take your wheels and hell get them done in one weekend.

I know Minervas are welded, but do they use the standard 40 bolt lips?

Interesting thread. Is it possible to add a lip to a wheel that had no lip?

I was wondering the same question as I want to get the Square G8's to be wider and with a lip with much less offset to fit on my car perfectly but havent been able to find much of an answer to the question or any pictures of it done so guessing its not a good idea.

I dont know any shops as well so cant ask if they can widen them.
Or rims like these (Avid AV-06

My goal is 17x11 -35 or -38 for me.

Having the spokes go to the edge of the lip like that makes it impossible, but if the spokes stopped before the lip you can cut and weld a barrel onto the edge.

Well.... let me get into some math here...

Stock fenders on my car and my new rims (17x9 -63) sticks 2 1/4" out.
Nearly perfect for my 50mm over fenders.
BUT, for stock fenders. That would mean 18x9 -6 would be flush with the fender.

I would recommend working with that. I can explain more when I am not at work and on the phone with a customer yelling in my ear. Sorry.

How can I go from 9.5+44 to -6??
What can be done or what options do I have

Here, offset is from the center. So basically the size of the rim, divided by two then converted to millimeters which will be the result of 0 offset.
So to figure out how to convert it out, you have to see how many inches or mm it is from the center/hub to the fender. I gave you my specs to inform you of the data you need to figure out where the hub is located.
2 inches is roughly 50mm. I can explain more later and will give you the correct offset as well that you are asking for.

For my rim, 18x9 -6 would be the perfect size to be flush with the edge of the fender.
9in = 228.6
228.6/2 = 114.3
114.3+6 = 120.3mm = 4.74in
(add the 6 this time because we are looking for how large of the outer lip needs to be in order to be a perfect fitment.)

So the distance from the hub to the fender edge is 120.3mm or 4.74in.

18x9.5 +44.. When getting it custom made, the offset shouldnt matter as they will be curring both edges and just need the reading you want.

9.5in = 241.3
241.3/2 = 120.65
120.65-120.3 = 0.35
So that is smaller than 1 which means you will want 0 offset for those rims in the rear ( I assume widest rim in the rear).

Hope this helps. If anyone wants to correct me, please do because I am tired and at work and may be wrong somewhere.
