Ref ticket in Cali Results
So last June I was pulled over and I received a ref and exhaust ticket. Due to court clusterfucks and them misfiling my paperwork, it wasn't until last month that I had my court date and I ended up paying around $480 for both tickets. I never visited the ref for anything. I have received my new registration, there is no mention of anything, no gross polluter, nothing. So basically it was a big expensive slap on the wrist. Just thought some people would like to know. The judge basically asked me if I was going to fix the problems, but I said yes but I didn't have the money right now and I would do it when I did get the money.
End Story. Don't get pulled over, it's stupid. Edit: Socal (LA area) Last edited by skylindrftr; 05-01-2009 at 10:51 AM.. |

No, Don't do illegal mods to your car. You can help getting pulled over. We just choose to go against the grain.

Other than the hack job that is the ac/heating system, the car is doing pretty good. But what s13 doesn't have a bunch of problems? I'm digging the Kakimoto; it's got such a sweet exhaust note I don't get tired of it haha. I can't wait until i can get new speakers though, the original speakers are on their last limbs

Eh, I think National City and Mira Mesa are as bad or maybe even worst than Chula Vista. Then again, about 75% of the motherfuckers down in CV are into little FF Hondas and believe me, about almost all the time they fuck up meets and shit.

s13 coupe with silvia front no aero. i got headers/exhaust but i was cruisin 35mph keepin it quiet when a car flies past me and it was a cop. then he slams on the brakes and gets behind me and says "you must race this thing alot" i was like WTF. then he asks to pop hood then gets me for header/exhaust, intake, breather filter. then he looks at some wires i had hanging out and said "this is bad for emissions its gonna release toxic fumes into the atmosphere and it can kill you" WTF those wires were for the foglights i just installed on my car and i was still testing them so i didnt tuck them yet.
he didnt know shit about cars and he wrote the reff ticket WTF. then he said he pulled me over because my car screams "race me now. im ready". WTF my car looks like an econobox. its just a stock bodied silvia. i was a just about to put my turbo in too. atleast i didnt get caught with a turbo cause that would be way worst. dam pigs end rant

I got two exhaust tickets in one month, both taken to the ref, both passing with flying colors and me wasting $10 each time. In Orange County btw. If you are anywhere in socal with a non-stock exhaust be ready for a ticket cause it doesn't matter how loud/quiet it is, they will give you a ticket cause they can cause of a loophole in the modified exhaust laws.

You should've refused everything (poping the hud). They have no right to just fuck around and fuck with you UNLESS you let them. I have never been pulled over. Tho i have a stock KA (for 5 more days) and a nasty ass straight exhaust.

Ethnicity plays a little bit but here are some simple ways to decrease being pulled over:
1. Don't put Decals on your car: It is a fact that police officers will pull people over who have decals on their cars, it's just a sticker that says "Pull me over". Some people will have a "Pot leaf" or "Herbal Life" sticker on their cars, and that is just asking for it. Some of you have "DRIFT!" or "Sideways" and "MUGEN" and "TYPE R" on your 240sx. That is also a dead give away. Even if you put a Decal of your University: UCLA, UCR, UCI, CSU,.....Police target Teen and College KIDS! They know you're probably going to a party, or getting "high"....having the Munchies and going to the Store, because your COLLEGE kids! And we party in College! Duh! Going on a Beer run.. So obvious. 2. Multi-color car: If your car is one solid color and looks like a bucket, police may not pull you over. If your car has red fenders, white hatch, blue trunk, yellow bumper and pink sideskirts, you will most likely get pulled over just for bad taste. The whole point of not being noticed is keeping it low key. If you drive a seriously clean car, even with monster camber and deep wheels, police may not pull you over because they may like your car cuzz it's so Fresh and clean, VIP status. 3. Wheels that don't match!: You have Enkies in the rear passenger, Fake Works in the front, and a Spinner hubcap on the other side. Or Donuts in the rear and alloys in the front. Police can pick you out easily. They see a car roll by, 2 matching wheels, check. WOops, One alloy and one spinner, pulled over. 4. Exhaust system: It seems most people get pulled over because of loud exhaust. By having a Loud exhaust, the Police gets a reason to pull you over and then has suspicion and can lawfully ask you to pop your hood. 5. Plain and simple, just keep it low key, and a sleeper..... To avoid having your Hood pop, you must limit your chances of getting pulled over. "You gotta pay to Play so they Say" You can't be mad at the police and courts because you violated the rules. |

Son of a bitch, when I left San Jose a few years ago cops didn't know what the hell a 240 is and only a select few knew about SRs and such. Oh well, stock KA when I move back.

My girlfriend got a ref ticket coming home from the movies in Lakeside (east county san diego) doing the speed limit and just driving home. The cop said her exhaust was extremely loud and that is why she got pulled over. She had a completely stock rb20 and n1 w/ silencer and that shit is quieter then most stock cars. Cop popped the hood said since she has a filter that she did have a cat on the car, so he reffed it.
Then two days ago my bro and I were cruising in his corolla to my shop when a s2000 comes blaring past us, didn't think anything of it. Make a turn to go towards my shop and this cop comes haulin' ass up behind us with the lights on, we pull over dude was like "get your hands where I can see them." Cops comes up with the gun pulled out and everything, cuffs my bro throws him in the back of the cop car and tells us we where street racing with the s2000, avading arrest, and speeding. Long story short, he pops the hood gives it a 2 sec look and gives us a ref ticket and an exhaust ticket, but no other ones. Keep your car quiet and stock looking to avoid the bs from the cops.

Me: Damm hes going to get me for tex and driving... crap! Cop: walks up.... Me: whats up officer? Cop: the reason why i pulled you over was because you have a modifide muffler. Where you headed? Me: Home, its that complex on the right. (about 100-200 ft. away lol) Cop: DL... Reg. bla bla bla... Cop: did you just moved in this erea? Me: yeah i did... about 1 1/2 months ago. Cop: ok... im letting you off on a warning since your new to this city... Just to let you know, we have a zero tolerance on race cars and racing here in Rancho Cucamonga. Me: i didnt know that sir... thanks for letting me know. Cop: take care of that muffler. (drives away) Me: burns out and drifts in to the complex drive way... lol j/k dark aztec red hatch, droped, 17" silver rims, after market front and skirts (satin black), mud flaps, tint, cat back exhaust, Kouki tail lights and a sticker that says " jesus <3 drifting" in gold flake bottom right bumber. stock KA24E with cone filter.
