i wondered the same thing since ive heard of peoples strut towers moving slightly and ruining their alignment and chassis structure

You're highly overestimating the rigidity of the stock tubs. I call total BS on changing the 3D positioning of the suspension mounting points by seam welding or doing tubs.

Whats far more likely is people crashing, cutting their front end off, welding in tubs, and then noticing their alignment is off.

Custom chassis harness is ideal.

It's a single stage quart kit made by SEM; Hot Rod Black. What do you mean, "for how messed up the fenders can be?"

You're basically forced to relocate the fuse box and reorient the lower transmission harness. I will be situating mine under the dash, like most do, and running the essentials back up to the front through the passenger frame rail.

i dont know how different s14s are, but i know on my hatch (and others that i've seen) when i did the tubs, the inside by where the frame rail comes forward can be pretty messy in terms of smoothness/cleanliness of the metal. yours looks very well done (as seen by the second pic i quoted). i guess i shouldnt have mentioned fenders as the actual fender has nothing to do with the area im talking about

Black generally looks like ass but I can say that yours is the best looking black bay I've seen in a LONG time.

No worries, I just didn't know how to answer you. Ya I spent a minute trying to make it look as best as I could. Check out my build thread ("revise and rebuild I guess") there are a couple more pictures in there.

Thanks for that. I kept it black because that's the factory choice for Mediterrianian Blue body color. I really like that SEM paint too.

All these builds and pics but no one is mentioning what there using for seam sealer/undercoat???

Essentially any automotive sealant works. Your main objective is to stop ANY moisture and/or liquids to sit in your welds.

I'm having one of my local shops order me 2 tubes of some sealant tomorrow, forgot the brand but I'll pic post it later.

As for coating, I'm using a rubberized coating you can buy at pretty much any Partsource (AutoZone for all you 'mericans) and Walmart. It comes in either a spray can or paint can.

Radiusedddd fender wells. Ultimate clearance.

P.S I'm a n00b welder and this is the first thing I've EVER fabricated, don't hate <3

This brings me to the question... have any of you ever used weld-through primer before welding? Was curious as to what you guys thought of it, for those that obviously have used it.

^generally I'd say if you can get away with not using it, do that. I think its a decent practice for large over-lapping areas where you'll be leaving unprotected metal there but I can't imagine it doesn't contaminate the weld to some extent.

I used 3M's Beige paintable; it was ~$13 a tube.

This is the only picture I had in my photobucket that shows them meet up. I left about a 2in "flange" of factory metal behind the core support.

It's an inexpensive aluminum bumper duct from Pit Stop USA | Your Auto Racing Parts Superstore - Racing Parts/ Racing Suit & Helmets

I connect it to a duct in my bumper for a cold/ram air intake supply.
