Well I bet most of you have heard about this by now. Only 7 months after Conan O'Brien starts the Tonight Show he's going to be canceled only to bring Jay Leno back to late night. I LOVE Conan and have been a huge fan of his for a couple years now. I think NBC is making a horrible mistake and will soon regret it. Don't get me wrong, I like Leno too, but his reign is over. He should just retire and do something else, like, hmm build cars all day long, or host a show on Speed or something like that. haha.

I think it's pretty much final that Conan is going to be leaving NBC for a different network. If you have been watching lately, he's been talking a lot of trash about NBC lately during his monologues.

Unless NBC blinks, his move will almost certainly trigger a late-night Armageddon, with shows and schedules being blown to pieces when O'Brien emerges -- as he inevitably will -- on another network, creating a genuine three-way war in what's been mostly a two-dog fight.

It may seem counterintuitive that another network would covet O'Brien, who sent two million viewers scurrying away from The Tonight Show when he took over from Leno last year. But if O'Brien's audience is smaller, it's also younger by about 10 years per viewer -- an astonishing demographic swerve that makes network executives want to marry him.

Bosses at ABC and Fox will be on the phone to O'Brien soon, if they haven't already. (``I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next,'' O'Brien said Tuesday.) If ABC can make a deal with O'Brien, it would mean the death of Nightline, which has been performing better in the ratings recently but is a demographic dog.

Pretty much all that's required for ABC to land O'Brien is to cough up a lot of money. (Easy to say when it's somebody else's, right?)

For Fox to get him, it will be a much trickier process. Fox has never offered its affiliate stations late-night programming, so the 11:30 p.m. hour belongs to them. They fill it with syndicated programming and reruns, from which they keep all the advertising revenue. For them to surrender it to the network will require some powerful financial incentives.

Nonetheless, Fox executives have been hinting since last week, when the news of NBC's impending shuffle started to leak out, that they were keen on the idea of adding a late-night show. Their initial interest focused on Leno, who it first appeared might be the odd man out at NBC. But O'Brien would be just as big a prize.

And if Fox does pull off the complicated three-way negotiations necessary to create a late-night show, it would mean all 200 or so of its affiliated local stations would suddenly cancel an hour of Inside Edition or other syndicated programming. That unprecedented wave of cancellations might well inflict some mortal wounds in the ranks of syndicated shows.

Meanwhile, NBC and CBS will suffer their own bruises. The pie of late-night talk-show viewers will suddenly be divided three ways instead of two. Many of the viewers who fled O'Brien to watch Dave Letterman on CBS will come back to see Leno (who, presumably, would get the full Tonight Show back if O'Brien quits). Some Tonight Show viewers who liked O'Brien will follow him to whichever network he winds up on.

Late-night TV hasn't been so exciting or unpredictable since the night 50 years ago when Jack Paar quit and walked out of the studio in the middle of The Tonight Show.

I've honestly never been a fan of Jay Leno. Not funny, shit monologues, not someone I could ever like watching.

O'Brien brings that sense of whimsicalness to his shows. He's got this magnetism that draws the younger crowd. I always think, when I catch his show, "cool, some young modern old guy. This is funny."

They haven't figured it out after 15+ years, I'm gonna guess never.

I really hope Conan goes to Fox. Even though he'd probably get an even earlier time slot if he did (11 PM), he can be edgier like he was on the late show because it's Fox.

I went to The Tonight Show a few weeks back when Ben Stiller was on and it was awesome. I hate FOX though and can just imagine the layout will be lame and oddly out of place.

Jimmy Kimmel hit a fucking grand slam last night. Pissed all over Leno just by doing a straightforward caricature of his routine. The too-frequent band intervention, fake Kevin, that fake belly laugh that somehow manages to look hateful, the DOA punchlines for headlines - it was classic. At this point I'm going to have to assume that anyone who favors Leno over Conan is either over 60 years old or retarded.

I've always been entertained by Leno, and thought that it was terrific that Conan was getting the Tonight Show. The fact that Leno's variety show failed is evidence that it's time for him to leave the limelight. Conan is what NBC NEEDS on the Tonight Show, and they shouldn't accommodate Leno by pandering to him and fucking with one of the best talents in the business.

I think Jay Leno is funny sometimes, but it's total bullshit what they are trying to do.

Yeah, Conan totally has a point. If they moved his Tonight Show into a later slot it will encroach on the Late Show territory potentially hurting that as well. Just because Leno's variety hour failed does not mean they should enable him with a new show in a time slot that's already filled. this whole thing reeks of NBC Fail as I'm sure both these guys are merely pawns.

Even though I'd watch Leno over Letterman, Conan was funnier than both put together.
I used to hate waiting for Leno to finish up before I could catch Conan.
His "In The Year 2000" skits with celebrities which he updated for the new show to "In The Year 3000" are pure gold! lol

oh and they should bring back Preparation H Raymond. haha...

1. Jay Leno wanted to leave NBC all together, but they didn't want it. He announced his retirement a few years back.

I like Leno alot, but he really needs to move over at this point. Both Conan and Jimmy worked really hard to get to where they are now and Jay decides on a whim to screw over them, their crews and all their fans.

As much as I like Jay, I'm extremely disappointed by this. If he returns and he's on at the same time as Dave or Conan, Conan is gonna get my ratings.

I just hope Jimmy's show doesn't suffer too much. He started off slow and bad, but I really dig him alot now. And getting a nightly dose of my boys, The Roots, is the hot shit!

Did anyone ever watch Conan during the writers strike a couple years back. IIRC he was writing his own material for the entire show, as well as paying his writers with his own money. Those were my most favorite episodes ever cause you got to see just how creative he was. He even did stupid things every night like see how long he could spin his ring on his desk; it was just so funny for some reason. When everyone else was running re-runs he was having new shows every night.

I caught the very end of Leno last night. Adam Carolla, some girl, Jay, and... let's see if I remember his name... nope. dont remember. but he has real short hair and I think used to be on Tough Crowd with Collin Quinn a lot.

Anyways, is this how the Leno show is now? Seemed like Tough Crowd, but with Leno as the leader.

Yes, he also played his guitar a bit and just all around messed with people.

There's a reason for this, Conan is NATURALLY funny.

You put him in an empty studio by himself, with no monologue or writers, and it will still be worth watching.

Even though I like Conan better, you can't put this drama on Jay Leno. They both got screwed by NBC. From what I understand this is how it went down:

1. There were rumors in 2005-2006 Conan was gonna leave the Late Night show for something more lucrative.

2. NBC wants Conan to stay because they want him to take over the Tonight Show whenever Leno retires. So they say they'll give him the tonight show in 2009.

3. NBC forces Leno into early retirement. Leno never really wanted to retire in 2009, but he went along with the plan. This was 2006?

4. 2008 rolls around and it's clear Leno still wants to do late night TV. NBC is paranoid now because if another network like Fox offers him a late night gig they are afraid he'll take the job. Instead of letting Leno go and having him possibly be a competitor (remember when he was host of the tonight show he basically killed everyone in the ratings), they offer him this prime time show.

5. Prime time show tanks. Now everyone is boned.

If anyone is to blame for this mess, it's NBC programming executives.

Not the best, but I wasn't there to see them.

I really didn't care what day I got when I asked for tickets. Just wanted to see Conan live.

Plan on going again too(if he still gets to keep the Tonight show).
