questions about sr20 engine

Any ideas on what to do to a non turbo sr20? I sold turbo and want a naturally aspirated car. I have engine work but seeking advice. Like maybe put a chip in it idk?

Non turbo Sr's make no more power than KA's. If you want NA power you are much better off doing a VQ35 or LSX. These are not Honda engines, they aren't going to make a lot of NA power. You could build it up, raise the compression to 12:5:1 blah etc, but the money you would spend would be a lot less than a turbo setup for an SR and would make less power.

^^^^^yup. i would rather buy a used sr turbo or an ebay one rather than try to make power out of an sr20det WITHOUT the turbo. compression is too low. if it was an sr20de, that would be a different story.

You could do an SR20VE swap and make serious NA power, but it is more involved than the DET swap.

Couldn't he just do a VE head swap to get VTC?

Not to mention a lot more money.

OP seriously if you want NA power do either a VQ or LSX.

The VE engine doesn't have just VTC, it has variable valve lift and timing, just like Honda's VTEC.

Yes, it would be a lot more money, however it is still possible. I think a RWD NA VE swap would cost less than that of your recommended VQ/LSx swap, if you had the means to do a lot of fab work yourself.

However, based on the fact that he asked about making big power from a DE, my assumptions are, he doesn't have the funds to pull off the DET, let alone a VQ/LSx swap.
