Received mine today. How can we tell it's a real C's? There are no stamps or labels on the short shifter. I also think I may be missing some parts according to the instructions. In the instructions it says "plate nut (2)" and I don't see those. They appear to be two half moon looking things

Thanks - your shifter is not missing any parts. Depending on production date C's changed the type of "locks" that the base of the unit secured with. The later ones got the banana shaped plates, earlier ones had the 4 lock tabs with the nuts welded to them.

You can just make out the edge of one in this picture:
