R33 GTR vs GTS brake calipers

how do i tell the difference between the r33 gtr calipers and the r33 gts calipers? correct me if i'm wrong, but the gtr uses a 324mm rotor, where the gts has a 300mm rotor.

Yes.

My friend has GTS-T brakes on his 240 and they are indeed bigger than Z32 brakes (by a good bit, these things are beefy as fuck) but I don't know the rotor size comparison to the brembo setup on the GT-Rs. To be honest, a GTS-T setup stops on a fuckin' dime and any more will either pull your teeth out if you have slicks all around or you will just lock up with anything less. Hell, Z32 setup can lock up tires going 30 if you slam the brakes. There really isn't a need for a brembo setup, but hey if you got your hands on some go to it.

there are a couple of models to choose from

R33 GT base 4lug

R33 GT-S base + has a 4piston caliper

R33 GT-S T same as above

R33 GTS-T (Type-M) This is a large sumutomo caliper with a 310mm rotor

R33 GT-R base same as above but never seen one like this

R33 GT-R Vspec - Brembo

but I might be wrong.

R32 GTR used similar calipers to the ones that come on the R33 GTST. though the 32GTR came with a 32mm rotor and the 33 GTST had a 30 milmeter. The piston sizes were the same though.

R32GTR V spec used a Brembo as well as far as I know R33 GTR came with Brembo's

These are Fronts I am talking about not rears.

All 2-piston rear brakes (Z32, R32 Turbo GTST, R33 GTS25t, etc) are the same (except for Brembos that come on the VSpec GTR's)

FRONT BRAKES

-R32 non turbo used 4-lug brakes that are similar to the S13/180sx and S14 Q's

-R32 Turbo GTS-T has 4-piston calipers (AFAIK the same as Z32, don't remember, if it's turbo or non turbo)

-R33 non turbo (4-lug) uses a twin piston floating caliper which is an upgrade for stock 180sx/S13 and S14 Q. The Rotor is exactly the same as the R32 GST-T except it is 4-lug

-R33 GTS25-t uses 5-lug brakes, the Rotors are larger than the R32 GTS-T and the caliper is still a 4-piston unit but is designed differently.

-R32 GTR Non-VSpec has larger rotors and calipers than the R32 and R33 turbo, and come with XDrilled and slotted rotors.

I'M GETTING ALL THIS INFORMATION first hand. I have worked, installed, collected, and sold many Nissan brakes while I was stationed in Okinawa.

R32 GTR Non-Vspec

r33 gts-t rotors are 296x30

r32 GTR rotors are 296x32

you could use r32 gtr rotors in a r33 caliper.. tho they aren't the same, they might as well be, uses the same pads etc.

your are basically splitting hairs here. Fact is the The R32 GTR Caliper is the exact same physical piston size and as the R33 GTST. The Caliper may look slightly different but its going to use the same pads. Also as someone else stated above there is 2mm difference in rotor thickness. That is all.

I appreciate what your posting but please don't misconstrue what I was saying. I should have put I am talking about fronts not rear. Now if the R33 GTR did not come with Brembo fronts feel free to correct me. Though I am not talking about the rear calipers here.

I might add Nissan is known for sticking Brembo calipers on the front of some of their cars but not in the rear i.e. Sentra SER V spec.

FYI, Z32 calipers are different from the R-chassis. The mounting ears on the R-chassis calipers are bigger, pushing out the caliper allowing it to use a bigger rotor. However, pad size is the same.

thanks for the pics katsumbhong. i knew about the two different calipers but, i didnt know which models they were for, and if they used different size rotors. so its just a 2mm thickness difference huh. how available are these non-USDM rotors (ie 296mm, 310mm)?

so has anyone found a cheaper place to find rotors for the gtst calipers.

i priced out some DBA slotted(cheapes ones from buybrakes.com) and they were 324 bucks....

is there no where to just get some oem rotors, or some similar sized oems rotors from another car.

good luck with that, I got tired of looking and finally bought DBA's from buybrakes. Supposedly IS300 rotors are the same diameter but the caliper needs to have spacers/washers to make the offset fit. One of the socal nissan dealers had oem r32 gt-r rotors closed out awhile ago, drilled and blanks, for cheap, but they are 32mm vs 30mm, that and I found them after I had already got mine.

i just can't see myself spending that much on rotors.... specially since i only paid 170 for the calipers.

i'll prolly just buy some R32GTR rotors and shave them down, since i can do it myself for free. but it depends on the cost

Wouldn't it be easier to trade your calipers for some Z32 ones then if rotor replacement cost is an issue? You might be able to get a 32mm one in there, but mine were pretty tight with new pads on the 30mm's.

for what it's worth.

I got brand new GTR32 rotors from Performance Nissan in Duarte.
The drilled ones even.

I bet they could help you out.
THe other option for me would be to go to

ENDLESS

or

Project Mu.

You are probably going to have to pay a lot, but at least they will be badass.

For some reason R32 GTR rotors (endless) are SUPER expensive.

mynismo.com is the website. They're listed at $130/side for drilled and $95/side for plain. I'm thinking about picking up some R32 GTRs and doing that.

i dont know if this is any help but i had the same problem getting some rotors for my r33 gts-t brakes and the cheapest place i found rotors was at placeforbrakes.com for some dba slotted rotors for $283.30. i emailed every nissan store i could and none of them carry r33 rotors so you might want to look into that.
