My downpipe does have a bracket like in the picture. Does that mean I can get away with a bracketless test pipe?
I think those brackets on test pipes are there to bolt a heat shield to. Maybe to fool an inspector during a visual inspection as long as they don't look too closely at it.

Without a heat shield, they're just squirrel shredders.

They must assume some pretty stupid inspectors.

I will then go with the bracket-less one. Thanks!

When I went in for emissions, the guy just dragged a mirror across the bottom. I have a HFC, but I'd guess a simple heat shield would satisfy the "quick glance" test, lol.

These pictures make me doubt what you said. Although they may just have welded it upside down...

I think I'll go with the bracket-less one anyway. Still funny I can't seem to find a picture of one installed.

Trying to fix my vert quarter window. Does anyone know if there are any other window regulators that will work besides the OEM part?

That is welded upside down. Here's an old for sale thread with a good pic of the stock cat and heat shied. You can see that the shape of the brackets on that test pipe would allow the heat shield to be bolted up. http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=555818

Looks like those brackets were a feature requested as far back as 2004: http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=64441

I can't find installed pic either, only stock photos from ebay sales. I guess nobody tags their pics with easily searchable terms, lol.

My test pipe has those little brackets. But it's been sitting on a shelf in my garage since I went with a 3" catco cat.

Recently I bought an Excessive ( version 1) throttle cable bracket, it just barley opens the throttle body even with the "position bolts" all the way back. My question is what version should I order for a s14 (1996) with s13 sr20det and greddy intake, 5spd trans if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance.

Where would be the best place to find one of these original nissan 240sx radios? (The top one, I already have the original tape deck below).

s13 ~alternator mystery~

So my single cam habitually dies in random places, leaving me asking random people for a jump all the time. And then it dies again while i'm driving. Getting used to this shit.

Anyway, battery warning light never comes on. NEVER. And i've replaced the battery with an optima. Battery doesn't seem to be charging.

Alt issue?

Could it be I need to get into my dash to fix the light? Or is there some reason it's not on that's indicating my problem?

Sounds like an alternator. Could test it by checking voltage while the engines running with accessories off. I would also test for parasitic draws with the car off keys out.

Question Fuel Filter Replacement

Recently got a s14 '95. Previous owner isnt sure the last time the fuel filter was replaced so I was thinking maybe it is time. I guess my questions are

1) how would you tell if the fuel filter needs to be replaced?
2) whats the recommended mileage to travel to then replace the fuel filter?
3) and, what is a good replacement?

On another note, what other filters and liquids should I check/replace?
I havent replaced anything since Im not sure where to start

Thanks!

Nissan doesn't have a recommended interval for replacing the fuel filter, it's "as needed." Every 30 - 60k miles is a good preventative maintenance interval. Over 90k and it can start to get pretty gunky.

For any new (to me) car, I plan a complete tuneup because there's no real way of knowing how the previous owner(s) maintained the car. Replace all fluids: oil, trans, diff, brake, coolant, power steering. Filters: air and fuel. Ignition: plugs, wires, cap & rotor. Inspect and grease moving parts. I'm sure someone will chime in with even more, but this should get you started.

Hey everyone!!

Anybody know if I can run two exhaust cams in the SR20DET? Can the intake gear be installed and clocked like the KA does with 2 exhaust cams?? I only ask because I bought a cam from someone thinking it was an intake (face>Palm)

If in doubt, i'd just replace the filter. They are like 10 bucks and your on the safe side.
I changed mine to a Z32 filter, don't know if it actually helps, it is bigger then the stock S14 one...

Yes!! It is the right place! and no, I don't believe so. Assuming you mean that can you bolt some rails to them like any other recaro and install it in a S13.

No, there is no reason why this should improve performance of the engine. But the filter is bigger, therefore flow in critical situations might be better. They cost the same though, so it was a no brainer for me...

@Recaro-Topic:

You should be able to fit them as they should be the same bolt pattern as, for example Speeds or Integra Recaros. You will however sit a bit higher then stock...

Hi all,

Red top SR20 in my S14. Poly engine mounts, T28, 3" elbow and 3" downpipe with no flex section.

Ive got an extra 6" long, 3" diamter flex section laying around and I figured I SHOULD utilize it.

It seems that If I weld in the flex halfway down the downpipe (where most manufacturers place them), it will rub on the body,

I also could weld it in where the test pipe is (which would clear the body), but that seems quite far back.

Any opinions here?

Thanks,

Does anyone have an Origin Racing Line Aero for their s14?

I recently bought an s14 with that kit, and the front bumper install from the previous owner looks jank to me. Im wondering anyone can help me by answering some questions about the installation of the front bumper via PM.

Just take a close look at the cam ramps to see if it's 1, 1.5 or 2-way. I wouldn't be too concerned about the brand.

NEW QUESTION

I have a 95 s14 with some decent steering play. I have traced it to my lower steering shaft u joint. I can see the shaft moving around inside of the u joint. I plan on replacing it but I've had no luck finding ANY part numbers or even used ones except for one ebay. The only thing i haven't done yet is call my local nissan dealership. Any one where I can get this part?

AND YES I have used the search buttom.
