Event sucked, have to agree with everyone, $15 for parking , whatever, another $35 for entrance, bunch of ugly ricer cars in carshow with ugly models (thumbs down), better cars in parking lot,few nice cars in the show including green s15, stood in line for food for a long time and when we were almost there, they ran out of rice for teriyaki bowl, room temperature sodas were $5 got sunburned like crazy, but overall, had a good time just hanging out. We were in the horseshoe section so the crowd made it fun cheering, Drift Box Sucks, and Do your Job to the staff after that guy got kicked out and booing the dumb girls that where shooting the stupid bail bond shirts! Only hot model was Ursula Mayes, she said whats up as we were walking along and I said what up and she smiled and laughed, she made my day i guess, lol

Enough hating though. By far the best thing about the event was their treatment of the media.

I am sorry you had a negative experience with this event and the rest of the people who felt this event was terrible. I will not boycot this event and I don't think anyone should. This was there first event as a series in the US. If the rest of the season goes like this then by all means boycot but at least give them a chance to improve from this. If you boycot them before giving them a chance to improve then we will never know what could/would have happen with the series. I for one would like to see the door to door tandems and see the privateers/local scene drivers get a chance to battle the best in Japan. I support everything this event/series stands for. Its gives the up and coming guys a chance at fame. I am all about the grassroots of drifting but I definetly support the pro level aspect of drifting.

Yeah it was definitely a disappointing event. i was excited to take my gf to her first drift event. especially after telling her about all the d1 events ive been to n watching all my option dvds with her. i know for her it was rather exciting, but as everyone else said. i sure do miss the irwindale days. there were just so many things wrong about the event, most of which have been said already. the commentator totally ruined the event and he didnt know shit about anything. amazing looking at the crowd now and then looking back when i went to my first d1 event in 2004. as long as my gf had a good time i was happy. but she was pissed when nomuken failed to qualify.
on another note, it was cool seeing hella zilvians cars all over the place. i guess the next time i head down to socal its for ASB stupid toyotafest being the same weekend as mothers day and Thunderdrift. my favorite part of the event was buying that last set of dmax crystal tail lights for the s13 coupe for $150 ! !yay me!! |

I think some of you that get it are speaking up which is nice.
I here you complain about the car show shit, but then complain the models aren't hot enough. The models come wit the cars and the booths guys. (BTW, anyone have pictures of that latin girl that was in front of that lowrider just standing there with her ass showing to the crowd?? I was just driving by and coupldnt stop to look lol MEDIA it did seem like they just let media do whatever the fuck they wanted. Thats great. I was shooting Pro event for 2 years and never understood why we didnt get free rain as media. Cause thats whats gonna sell to the nation is the pics. I saw so many holes that were cut into the fence. Good on you media. Not to mention those barriers were probably not up to racetrack spec, and they let media go were ever they wanted behind them. Im sure it will progressivly get better. And I personally like seeing the up and comers getting to battle the JPN guys on a smaller course. Cause if they had to battle FD drivers on Irwindale, it would be a boring, HP drift contest. DOOR 2 DOOR 2 DOOR !!!! FTW. And the crowd was out of control! which was great!! it brought everyone together and gave it more of a grass roots feel where everyone was actually part of something! |

yea, drove down from norcal with high hopes being that this was the first event in a few years, figured they were going to go all out to re-establish D1 as the premier drift gran prix. half of my favorite drifters weren't there, nomuken not qualifying!? complete load of garbage right there. toshiki losing the round for straightening out, even though the previous run he killed that car 3/7. barely any major vendors there, save greddy and, well, greddy car show had sub-par cars that weren't even worth taking pix of. could care less about the models, half of them were bull-dogs anyway. only food i ate there was the kettle corn. those parading gumball jackasses were honestly pissing me off trying to show-off, I'll hand it to that mustang doing donuts, the er34(until he attempted to drift, sorry man, had to ) the ford gt sounded beastly! that firebird with the wheels so big you could lay in them, lol. kinda sad, but I actually lost interest after toshiki got eliminated and left before it came to the final 8. the only highlight of the trip was visiting Autobacs for the first time and finding HELLA stuff 40% off, man, forreal, ya'll need to go over there, they priced matched the cheapest prices i could find online right there, no joke!

We are killing the good things about drifting here in the states. But i could care less. As long as there is some place to drift im good.

Having two series means that sponsors now have to choose in a bad way: do they sponsor one series, or both series. Meanwhile, the drifters are going after the same group of sponsors. Dividing the pie between sanctioning bodies means that everyone gets a smaller piece of the pie and most of all, the privateers get left in the cold. How do I know this? 5 years of managing my own racing series and 20 years of Marketing. Your counter point that D1GP is on a shoe string budget proves my point...if a legitimate, "big name" series can't get funded, what makes you think privateers can? The "biased" judging of FD may be a debatable point, but ANY subjective judging will ALWAYS be questionable. In D1GP's point, flawed technology with that ridiculous Drift Box fiasco did little to lend credibility to D1's methodology. As for the "money sucking" companies getting involved, dude...which sponsors are money suckers? Which ones aren't? I'm curious. Either you want corporate dollars to support the sport, or you don't. What has been misquoted on this site 20x is that HIN is NOT owned by the same guys. The current "owners" of D1GP are FORMER owners of HIN. They have a long history of building successful events. However, as for their promises of extensive media coverage, TV coverage and "setting a new bar" for drift events, let's just say they have much work to do. This was their first event. Granted, it might have missed the mark. Hopefully, they're reading this and make the necessary changes. If they don't have it sorted out by season's end, the public and the drifters will have spoken, even if silently so (by not attending future events). Nothing pisses me off more than invisible staff at an event and Nazi security. I just came from FD Vegas and it was a good event, by contrast. Still, there is judging controversy...what's new. But it was well organized, had good turnouts and was entertaining. I'm all for competition...but one consideration trumps all others: EVERYONE is struggling for dollars right now. Having ANOTHER drifting series means FEWER dollars for everyone. Don't believe me? Look at the history of import drag racing. Having FOUR sanctioning bodies at one time literally killed the sport in less than 4 years. |
