new to me s13 no start problem searched

just got a hatch and it has a de ka in it. Was driving it home which was about 2 hours, and it died while losing all power about 40 miles from home but it was starting from a jump. got the battery tested and it is good. replaced the cables and terminals. i may redo the ground when i move my battery to the back but i just want the car to start. i read it could be the relay or switch when i go to start it i heard one click idk if it was the interlock relay or the starter and i saw a spark once by the battery. i'm thinkin it's either the starter or the relay... It could be the ground as well too though so i'm gonna grind the paint off where it's bolted and maybe try jumping the clutch switch but how do you do that? i just want to rule everything out and i read the thread where SRpowered had three tests that i will have to re read and try out, but any other suggestions? i thought it was the alternator before since it shut off but i found that the cable coming off the distributor to the (can't think of what it's called that controls spark) came off. so i think that's what made it die.

well if the battery was dead then it could be ur alternator. check on the dash and see if the battery lights on but sometimes the light wont work for what ever reason. but to tell if it is the alt. jump car with a full battery and take off the neg. from the terminal and if it dies then ur alt. out.

well got it running wasn't the alternator, the ground was bad i think cause i put a new terminal on and everything and it's startin up like a charm. took the negative off and was still goin so i think it all checks out. i'm pretty sure i need a new exhaust header and back though it sounds rough at idle kinda back firing and it's really loud when movin. i'm gonna post a link to how it sounds here soon. thanks for the help though guys. atleast i didn't have to order any new parts as of yet haha

it almost sounds like u have a exhaust leak and a miss. i doubt the manifold has cracks cuz its cast iron but the gasket might need to be replaced. also i suggest to do a tune up asap. get plugs (always check the gap), wires, fuel filter and u should be straight. also ide run some fuel injector cleaner for a while just to make sure nothing clogging up. u never know how well the car was kept. ALWAYS run 91

sounds like a solid plan i got 2 months before i get my license back so i will get it nice and daily drivable before then but i wanna upgrade the exhaust anyways. i might do the header just cause but definitely new gasket and studs. i was thinkin i'm gonna swap it in class next semester though with an sr so i'm not gonna do too much

sounds good. idk what sr ur plannin on going with but i have the s14sr and like it more than the s13sr which my mom has in hers. granite the s13sr's a looot louder than the s14sr but i like the vvt and plus the trans has a little closer gear ratios and already has the t28 bb turbo. when u get it throw in a boost controller and bump it up to 13 ibs and ur chillin

your mom has an sr? that's badass haha. but i was thinkin the s13 cause if i want a big hp goal i'm gonna need to get rid of the vvt but idk yet and s13 sr is a lil easier wiring wise, but food for thought. and i'd be upgrading the turbo anyways.
