maybe you slave cylinder blew... i had the same problem driving my car.. shit jst didnt want to go to gear. in or out if the car is on idle, but when the car is off, it goes in...

check the most simple stuff.. IE clutch fluids, master cylinder, leaks under your dash above clutch pedal. then your slave cylinder.. its an easy fix if thats your problem.

but if its really the tranny.. your shit outta luck.. goodluck

Sounds like you might have blown the clutch line... check out the master cylinder to see if you have fluid... drivers side corner of the engine bay...the smaller resevoir

the agree with the guys above... sounds like a clutch line or slave... if it was a broken tranny you'd still have your other gears (typically)

can you get it in gear while the car is off?

did you happen to check under your dash on the clutch pedal for leaks?

Did you check your slave cylinder for leaks?

it might have fluid in the master cylinder, but if you have a blown seal, its not gonna hold pressure when you press the clutch pedal.

so still have all your fluids,
the clutch goes up and down just fine

When you say it "grinds" what does that mean exactly? does it not allow you to go into gear, and is just stuck or does it force itself back out of gear when attempting to push it into gear?

there is that old saying...... if you cant find it grind it........

maybe you could tell us what you did on the way to Ocala to figure out where the problem is. were you doing some pulls or something? if you were cruising at 2AM on the toll roads or interstate......... You shouldnt hardly even need to change gears.

That car was very well built and cared for, so I'm not saying it is your fault, but something had to happen to cause this issue. Transmissions dont just all of studden die out.

I wonder if the clutch fork isn't mis-aligned.

if you break the driveshaft or diff, it would still run, but will have a very disturbing "clunking" sound.. had the same problem with my friends S2k..

so cliff notes of this problem:

*driving 100 miles @ 70 mph cruising
*5th gear suddenly popped out and couldnt get it into to ANY gear since
*clutch line and pedal are firm and checked no fluid leak
*could get into gear @ idle but doesnt go nowhere
*Car doesnt go into gear when car is off

You might want to clarify the 2 bolded red lettering... and maybe write a cliff notes of your own for everyone to understand. apparently im gettin confuse myself..=/
