Not fake enough for many on the island silly people. As for the fear that most have of the mongoose.... I don't understand myself completely, I can only imagine it's because of the dark color, the fact that they are quite active at night, they move so fast and are considered to be a rabies threat, so basically the bastard darts out, bites you in the ass and leaves you with the question of whether or not you have been infected.

Yeah and they did do a job on the local reptile population and have since moved on to chickens and the like.

When I was on my honeymoon, we had a time-share condo, and the first day we were there there was a centipede that looked just like that one in the living room, probably 6-7 inches long, though half as thick. Gave me the heebie-jeebies, just crawled behind the tv and never saw it again, though that didn't necessarily make me feel any better while we were there.
