I've been reading and hearing of all these tourist companies saying that their sales are hurting since Sept.11, as tourism has declined since then.
And I'm thinking, no one I know, myself included, has really stopped touring because of the attacks...has anyone you guys know not gone somewhere because of them? Especially Disneyland...I can't see how people would have stopped going there because of the attacks. I mean, maybe non-US tourists have slowed down going to Disneyland..especially the middle eastern countries...but I can't imagine the Japanese, canadians, or anyone else have been really effected. |

Last summer, I came home on September 3rd on the flight from Washington DC to LAX. The same flight that crashed on the 11st.
This summer, I came home on September 11st. It was a very enjoyable experience because LAX was practically empty...at least the international terminal.

If I had the money, I'd go anywhere still, but since I don't have money, I can't exactly travel...I never had any desire to visit the Middle East in the first place, but the 11th didn't make me less inclined to go...

For me, it is the response to Sept. 11, not the acts themselves that have made travel more annoying (but I understand that's how it's got to be). Last week, I was searched three times and my bags twice for a flight from DC to San Antonio, connecting in St. Louis.
On the other hand, I can say that DC hasn't had half the tourists this year it normally does. Between people losing jobs/money and the fear that they are in a target city, they are just not willing to come someplace like this. Personally, I was in NYC the last week of Sept. 2001 to stay at a nice hotel, take in a Broadway show, and shop. I think changing our lives for them, with the exception of security, is giving in. My reply isn't "not really" but "not at all". your choice of using "not really" assumes that this has an effect on EVERYONE, whereas the fact of the matter is that my flying habits have nothing to do with sept. 11.

Hasent really affected me.
I flew into JFK on Sep 10th 2001 for Biz in NJ. Woke up the next morning and was working and one of the guys we worked for said a plane just hit WTC... We ended up drinving back to Colorado in a nasty new Mustang. Those things have smaller cabins then a s13 coupe. |

It really hasn't affected me at all. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/huh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> . Actually, I travel more. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> . don't know why though, I just do. I toured Spain over the summer, and next july i'm visiting my friend in Germany.
I actually feel a lot safer now. I had metal staples in my knees from a previous knee surgery and I was stopped, searched, and questioned at every terminal. If they can pick up a couple grams of titanium...imagine what else those metal detectors can find. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/eh.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eh:'> well...i might not want to go visit afghanistan...but i think any sane person feels the same way. |
