Swedish S13 V8 Turbo
Let me first introduce myself, my name is Robin and I’m from Sweden, I bought this S13 when I was 18 and now I’m 20. The car was all stock when I bought it and first thing to do was fix some rust, new no-name wheels and improve the CA a bit, I was used to my BMW 318 so it felt pretty much as a racecar to me! I have never liked bolt-on parts so most of the parts in this build is custommade.
When I bought it After a winter of modifications But after a year with a bunch of real fun driftsessions I felt that I needed more power and torque so I started planning about changing to a new engine, first plans was a six cylinder turbo engine like a RB or JZ. But when I found a complete BMW 740 with 6 spd gearbox I changed my plans and went on with a V8 instead. The spec of 2013 was pretty much BMW M60B40 engine with chip and headers, about 320hp 6 spd standard BMW gearbox with standard flywheel and clutch with custommade propshaft. Moved steeringrack forward, extended FLCA, adjustable caster rods and driftworks hubs. In the rear I just changed everything to adjustable rods, BC coilovers all around and poly bushes or uniballs in alls the rods. Custommade wire harness inside and only the necessary interior left. Donor car The new gearbox is really big so I had to cut pretty much out the whole tunnel and a bit of the firewall. Testmounted Custommade headers New tunnel Fabricated new wheeltubs in the front, cut off the original and added a 5cm strip of sheetmetal and then welded back the old Painted inside and engine room New BMC and CMC setup Weighted the car to, this is with about 30L of fuel in it but it’s still over 100 kg lighter then stock even with a heavier engine. And how the engine looked finally! So this is what I did most of the time in 2013 with no problems just consuming sick amounts of tires Now the fun part begins! I realized over the summer that it needed a bit more power on the bigger tracks with speeds over 130 km/h so I will turbocharge the V8 during the winter. Will also finish building the car inside with a rollcage and a firewall in the trunk for a new fuelsystem to pass all the regulations, the look on the outside will also have a major upgrade. New enginesetup looks like this in the current situation M60B40 Recondition with bearings, seals and gaskets Garrett GT42 60 mm WG & 50mm BOV Custom 4-1 Manifold 4x intake cams SFI 1000cc injectors and E85 New fuel system with JAZ fuelcell, catchtank and dual 044 pumps and also AN fittings everywhere Custom flywheel with 765 pressure plate and sintered clutch MS3X Stand alone system Started off with a pile of pipes from Custom Cages That after a few hours of welding was fit into in the car, really impressed with how well everything fit! Then the trunk was the next victim for the angle grinder to make room for the fuel cell, catch tank and pumps The entire floor was built new and a bit of the rear end. The fuel cell is made by JAZ and holds 30 litres, the catch tank have I made by myself and is just over 3 litres The next step was the hardest part of the S13 , how to build a nice firewall against the trunk, this sits just behind the strut towers and then angles back then it will seal against the rear window with a rubber strip. Another detail that I barely seen on any other car before is to seal the car behind the doors, in particular to avoid the smoke from the wheelwells and also make the interior completely separate from the trunk I have also ordered new overfenders from DDesign, Aerokit +20 front and +50 rear just a quick testfit Finishing of with my movie from season 2013! Sorry for some of the crappy pics and the wall of text but I hope you enjoy the reading! |
