91 s13 Won't Start KA24de
So my s13 wont start I changed the started and tested it and it passed I even bought a new battery cause it was bad thinking that would be the problem and it wasn't the battery. I have no idea what it could be. I even kicked started the car to triple check if it was catching with the fly wheel and it wasn't the problem because when I turned it off to turn on again all I would here was a click coming from the engine bay and the fuel prime. Can anyone please help me. I have no clue and it's my daily. Any info would be helpful. Thanks guys!!!

Check to make sure your clutch interlock system is working correctly. Its the safety system that makes it so that you have to push the clutch in to start the car. There is a plastic stopper on the back of the clutch pedal that depresses the interlock switch when you push the clutch in and start the car. The stopper is notoriously prone to breaking and will cause a similar issue to the one that your having. If its broken, you can fix it by sticking a bolt and nut through the hole where the stopper used to be.
If the stopper is fine test the interlock relay itself to make sure that its working (its located next to the battery on the passenger side). If the relay is bad you can either bypass the system or replace the relay. Good Luck! |

Have you tried seeing what code the ECU is shooting back?
http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/ecm_codes_doch.htm http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/ecmcodes.htm These are two resources I've used in the past to diagnose starting issues despite good hardware. I hope you find these useful. good luck getting back on the road |

Try what rusty said and check the clutch switch. Same thing happened to my 5 speed s10. I don't know how s13 clutch switches are wired but all I did for the s10 was unplug the wires from the clutch switch and jump the wires with a paper clip to test. The paper clip method acts like you are pushing in the clutch.
If that happens to be your problem you could simply solder or crimp the wires together and not have to worry about it again. I always religiously wiggle the shifter before startup as everyone should do so starting in gear isn't an issue. |
