I'm not sure if it will be road legal in the end or not. I may be able to get it properly road legal once it is done if I register it as a self built car. From what I understand it is a long process though. I'll have to wait till the car is done and see what needs to be done from there.

You could just weld the firewall in...... You upgraded the rest of the car, but, it's still a 240, at it's (firewall) heart

I have given that some thought too. I actully cut the part of the firewall with the vin number out of the original car before I scrapped it just so that I could weld it on to the tube chassis in the future if I decided to go that way. The section I cut out is about a foot square. I also saftied the car and registered it in my name before I scrapped it, so... we'll see. I feel like it would be highly illigal if I were to do that plus I'd just be a massive target for da po-po.

Always an option though...

Crazy. I've always thought of something like this. Then the engine possibilities are endless

Amazing work keep it up. If you think about it once the body's on the frame and you make some tubs to hide some of the tubing, who's gonna tell you it isn't a 240sx? Good thing you kept the VIN

Exactly. It would draw a lot of attention and I am sure I would get pulled over for the stupidest things so I would have to make sure the car is really up to road standards to avoid a massive list of tickets. I'm going to have to put the car away for now though. Winter is here and my parents want their garage back. I'm going to work on it when I can but I don't think I'll get any major work done in the next little bit. My seat, fuel cell and rad finally showed up though. Front end and rad support will be getting built next!

You are correct. The engine mounts about a foot and a half behind the strut towers. The engine doesn't mount to the cross member, I built mounts directly on to the frame. The car is tecnically mid engine.

I have a little bit of an update! I haven't done any work to the car recently because it is in storage for the winter but I did manage to get a weight of the car while moving it. Only 286 pounds as the chassis sits now with the front coils installed. I was honestly expecting it to be alot heavier. I thing I may still be able to break 2200 pounds total weight even with the pig the VG is!

2200, Hell. Yes.

Build one of those SRs and throw that light ass motor in there and you'll have a monster on your hands. Might even break 2000lbs!

Also subscribed.

We'll see! I'd like to build my VG and one of the sr's and install the engine with every thing on quick connects and have custom mounts that bolt both the vg and sr in the same location, then have an sr adaptor plate to mount to the vg tranny. That way I would always have a solid back up motor plus swapping engine could be done in half a day.

We'll see what happens in the spring, I'm itching to get back to work on this thing!

Nice build man. Its a different path than the usual builds but great way to test your knowledge and skill. Keep the updates coming as they happen, I'm eager to see the out come.

It's been a while since I've posted on here. I've been traveling a lot and moving around the country. I've put a lot of thought into this, and I'vecome to the decision to post this project up for sale of anyone was interested in it. The car has been in storage for the last year and a bit and I just don't have the room for it anywhere else. Storage is starting to cost me too much so if anyone is interested in the car just let me know. I would be willing to sell the project as just the frame, or as a complete package including everything I have for the car. The car is currently located in Hamilton Ontario. About an hour from Toronto. I enjoy road trips and can deliver to pretty much where ever if the purchaser pitches in for some gas cost.

Just shoot me a pm if there is any interest.

Thanks, Brent.

It's back!

I regret ever trying to sell. I think it was just the fact that it had been in storage for 2 years and I forgot what I was actually dealing with. It's back in the garage now though and I got right to work. Finished the firewall bracing yesterday and got right into hacking up the strut towers to fix clearance issues with the front end.

I also picked up both a new mig and tig welder so that should help push this thing a bit further.

Here we go!

Mig

Subb'd. I love this build. If you still have the old 240sx shell, you might be able to transfer reg and vin from it to the car you are building. Not sure if you'd be able to do that in your exact scenario, but the muscle car guys swap frames/shells and have it be legal. just and idea
