its not a cool car. its a fad of being RWD and being a 4 door.. something new... but any car has potential too look legit and clean... depending on how deep your pockets are..

every tool bag that said this car aint cool is retarded. its not cool stock. which car is (family car). but im sure the same tool bags wouldnt say the same thing about this car if it has a 2JZ-TT swap in it...

almost every car can look good. some need a certain style. a lot of people dont care for the slammed, kitted, crazy offset cars. a cressida would need a few if not all of these to make it look decent.

people are getting poor so they buy a 20 yr old pos and are able to put some money into it. if i had the bank roll and an extra spot in the garage i would buy one and swap a 2jz in it and bust up sports cars all day.

Funny this thread popped up. The other day my bro picked up an 86' for $400 with a messed up engine so basically a shell. Super clean inside and out. I personally like them, and like any car when done right it can be appreciated by everybody. Some examples:

Old Maximas are RWD. And besides the sedan, they also came in station wagon and coupe versions, and were the first car to 'talk.'

Oh snap, you're right. We should start a new trend and start modifying old Maximas and passing them off as cool because they're rwd lol

We have to buy them up first so we can sell them for profit once we convince people that they are desirable.

I have an MX73. I think it's sort of dumb to buy one as a drift platform, there are lots of other cars with more potential and better aftermarket.

I just wanted a zokusha, and it serves this purpose pretty well (although I'd have gotten an MX32 instead if I could've found one). I grabbed a big obnoxious grachan lip off YJA, some SSR Mk1's, T3 coils, 5spd swap, etc.

While I may well try to do an event in it when it's done, it will probably suck, and I'm at peace with this because that isn't what it's for.

There is this N/A 2JZ Cressida for sale nearby. Kind of neat, but I have a thing for cars with N/A JZ or N/A RB.

IMHO: Cressidas are ugly. MX30 and MX73's are okay if they're done in a "classic", "old school", or boso style. The headlights on MX83's are straight up ugly. A kit (serialnine) helps but they really need a chaser or mark II conversion to look good. The reason everyone tries to roll in them is because their successors (JZX81/90/100/110) are so awesome.

what doesnt help these cars is they are kind of associated with people who dont have much money for a better car.

Why are these soo popular? first Gen GS300 looks 10x better and has little aftermarket support.

First gen GS300 has a lot more aftermarket support than you'd think, especially if you know where to look. Not exactly cheap/affordable though.

first gen gs300 is also a shitty thing to want to "mod". unless you are "modding" it to hold your wheelchair because you're 80 and drive it to dialysis.

Why Cressida's are becoming(or became) trendy
They are 4 door and rwd: budget VIP car... can there be such a thing?
You can kind of make them driftable
They can be cheaper than a 240 if you do it all your self
Not every one has one.. yet (yeah I had one)

honestly, if you have to define a cool car as in, it sucks and is ugly stock but you can body kit and modify to all hell.... well then that is just fucking retarded. But then again everyone's definition of cool will change. So if you don't think its cool, that's fine, some one else will.

I don't think cressida's look bad, they can be very plush and comfy. The aftermarket is there, just not like Civics or 240s, but you can get trick stuff. I'm glad that Toyota decided to make them again IS300.

Well i guess its agreed that imports from the 80's are for the most part ugly. Im pretty sure there is a really sweet cressida out there in J Land that is being built right. The fact the car doesnt have big aftermarket support goes in to the decision of the car being wack. I like them i guess maybe because my bro picked one up and i trying to defend him on some level.

IMO these are the best built cressida. If you hate these then just give up in trying to like them:

Uhhhh, I've seen one Cressida in Japan, and it was a fluke case of an export car being left in Japan and being sold as a Mark II.

JZX81 and MX83 are two completely different animals, roof line and trunk are wayy different mannnnnnn. I heart the JZX81 just as much i do not dig the Cressida. Of course you know this, I just hope you don't hurt your car's feelings by lumping it into the same category.

what you've posted just looks like the late 90's/early 00's when the whole ricer thing was in full swing and they greenlit FATF, and everybody was just kitting up whatever shitty car their parents handed down to them at the time. i remember this one guy had a like '89 corolla with a wing and fart can and he was up on the cruise strip 7 nights a week during the summer, thinking it was the coolest shit ever.

Stop quoting yourself. If you don't like S chassis folks, stop buying used parts.

Yeah, I've had 2 Toyotas, going back to Nissans.

Yeah, I had one, no I don't miss it.

No, I wouldn't do it again.

All the X chassis guys think they have something special, or act like they're so hardcore for keeping up with it.

I just couldn't get with it. So I got rid of it. I am feeling the same way about my other Toyota. I can't wait to come back to my first love.

I'm premie again btw
