hey guy's, im new to the tuner world, i found a 90 240 with a rb20det swap, the problem is the IACV is broken, i have done some reading & have read you dont need it??? im lookin at driven 200+ miles 1 way to pick it up & was hoping to drive it back, is there any thing i can do with out replacing it tell i get home??? any info would be great, like i said im new to the tuner world these motor's are a tad different then a big block dodge lol

You have to crack open the throttle body or you'll stall every time you stop or slam the throttle closed. Get it idle with the throttle screw, the drive it, rev up to about 4500 then clutch in throttle closed in gear, if it doesn't stall drive normally, if it does clutch out the engine should start, pull over, adjust throttle screw some more.

running no IACV will screw up your fuel maps. adjusting the throttle screw PAST its normal range of 4.2 to 5 volts will result in faulty fuel and ignition maps as the computer goes into "WTF DO I DO" mode.

and how do you know the IACV is broken? did you check the voltage its receiving with NISTune or ECUTalk thru your OEM consult port? did you remove the IACV, clean it extensively and put it back together? you know they tend to build up with carbon/oil and get sticky over time right?

Don't run without an IACV.....

Some idiot took it off the last car I bought and welded the hole closed.

You don't gain anything from it except a hard to drive vehicle. It's not worth the trouble and possible accidents you could cause by stalling your car on the road.

He's not talking about leaving it that way. Just doing it to get the car home. If you do it it'll kinda be like driving a carbed car with no choke. Not the best solution, but you won't break the car doing it.

my bad, i just skimmed thru the post. youll probably be OK driving the car home, HOWEVER (big however), your gas mileage is probably going to suck balls!

fix that ish' the instant you get it home!

the dude told me the iacv is broken, not sure if he pulled it off or what, just want to know before i fork out 3k an a long ass drive over an back

you can always pay $400 and have the car shipped to your doorstep, that eliminates ANY possibility that the car will fail on its drive home

lol 400 is well over my limit, i just talked to the kid & i guess it's completley broke, the metal tube on it is broke off.... so should i just move on or can i drive it home that way with the idle turned up?? dont want to screw any thing up, would trailer it but no trailer

Not a good idea to run without it. It can be done though but like someone mentioned your timing and fuel maps are off. Especially if it's broken and going to be pulling in unmetered air.

Wrong guys, if all he is trying to do is move this car across the state of Montana he'll be ok, Now if he's boost or beating on the car in any fashion then yeah he'll be off in the fuel and timing maps. To remedy that all he would have to do is make sure the iacv and hose is blocked off and then set the tps to closed again, after the throttle body has been crack open and set properly to idle.

I wouldn't make it a permanent solution, but people have!

Dorki it would be normal WOT range, cracking the throttle body open from it's normally closed voltage would raise it maybe .30v to idle. Then adjust the tps back to it's normal close voltage, or until the ecu reads tps closed(consult or program)
