oh ya btw for the op after today make sure you have lots of USD.
um and $1 isnt 100 yen any more US Dollars exchanged for YEN at say wells fargo = $1 will only get you about 81 or less and lets say at the air port in japan might be more or less and after this weekend say using a credit card ? figure it will be a lot less $1= 79-76 yen so figure you could not have picked a more expensive time to visit japan. the prices at upgarrage anit so cheap when you add up the cost of shipping them back state side. |

God damn the yen rate is at 81!
I remember old people telling me they remember when the yen rate was in the 300 somewhere. The highest I've personally seen it was 140. I feel so old now. And Upgarage and Partsoff is like a McDonalds in Japan. They are basically on every street corner. Sway away from Autobac's nuts, I remember bringing people there new from the states and everyone was all over the price and how awesome everything was, but their shit is mainly %20 over priced. Go around to specific builder shops, thats usually where you can find your deals. Essential and Tanaka is right out the gate of Yokota, by Route 16 if you are totally lost. I remember Apex'i had a shop somewhere in downtown Tokyo too, shitty I can't for the life of me remember which district. |

Exchange rates is murdering the import/export business.
Today being 84. I have been importing for 7 years, when I started, we were able to have awesome prices and make money, now, My prices are high, customers complain, and im not even making money.... this sucks! |

1. Upgarage is hit or miss if you going to on physical location. Browsing online is better cause the show you most of all the store inventory.
2. Up Garage isn't cheap. 3. I'd hit up local shops (ask friends in the area) 4. Scrap yard/ Junk yards 5. Most important find someone you can _ang that has a YAJ account and let your fingers do the walking. As mentioned the yen rate sucks and hopefully you can use USPS to ship.

I agree with yokotas13, it just depends what you buy and when. I used to go almost every other day cause they bring parts almost every day, so I'd get cheap rims for my s13 and Ae86 all the time, not to mention exhausts and body parts, so yeah, you've got to be on top of it if you want cheap prices!

91 aint too hot...im just surprised that its staying at that for the last week. Usually it gets this high for a day or 2, then comes back down to 88-87s.

^^^ dont want to get into a political debate on this but I am with you on this as this has been as sticking point in japan lately as well as cause for a lot of upset in japan. Some do like the current rate but others who are on the export side of it do not like it one bit. I do not like whats happening how but I do not have a say or anything I can do about it.
For those using your credit card there talk about getting raped on the exchange rate. Hey buddy you're not going to be paying what you see in the paper that is the market list price and banks will charge you 5-8% difference. As for the banks if the current rate is 91 yen subtract 5 points from that. so that is what your paying when you buy Yen from USD. so if you see 87 yen subtract 5-8% (capital one) = 10-15% tac on what you paid off that price and ur really paying extra for something you could have gotten at home for a lot less. |

I totally agree.... its 93 at the Papers, like I said the Sell at Amex was 87!!! F that shit..... crazy.... if you use a credit card then add another 3% on that and literally get ass raped in the face....
Yes I agree with Racer98.... Its great for our exports out of the US, but the imports are going to be pure craptastically expensive....

upgarages are everywhere. website is easy to use and can pinpoint a location plus their inventory. i've called one farther away because they had a part i wanted and just carried it home on the train before. WELD and SUI:VAX are both in yokohama, too.
