Last week while driving to work, my engine started shaking a lot all the way to the exhaust. Upon inspection i removed the first plug wire and nothing the engine continued the same. so i thought it was the wire. I let the car stand a couple days then i turned it on to show a friend and nothing it was back to normal, i didn't change nothing.

  Any idea what it could've been? i thought maybe my distributor, or wires. but its been running fine since.

  spark plug gap is .044 right?  Could over-gapping have been the problem?

Try putting that same wire on the #2 spark plug. Does #2 misfire? Is #1 still misfiring? Take the dist. off,  see if you can clean off any corrosion on the dist. and on the dist. rotor. Why would you try running fuel injector cleaner if the wire's not sparking?<img src="#/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

i put a screw driver in the wire and put the screwdriver by the engine and there is a spark. Its weird cuz it only happened that one time and hasn't happened since. I just want to know what caused it so it doesn't happen again.

Your engine is actually a ground to the vehicle's wiring circuit. (-). The ignition system's spark generates positive output. Connect them together with a screwdriver (conductor) and voila,  there's a circuit. Had it not been for the handle, you might have felt a little shock.

Yeah, be careful though. You can get zapped by a car's ignition system if you're not careful with stuff like that.
