[Orlando, FL] Request : SR20DET Owners
After a four year sabbatical; I am looking to rejoin the world of 240sx ownership. The chassis, suspension, interior and exterior efforts are already well squared away in my mind, but the drivetrain has yet to be determined. My last car was headed down the path of RB25DET, but remained KA24DE as I sold it before sourcing the motor set. I've driven an RB car before and rather like the pairing as a whole but with age (and assumed enlightenment) I've come to appreciate a well-rounded car with a focus on lightness. With that in mind I'm now considering an S14/S15 SR20DET instead. The problem is I've never driven a 240 with that motor and am not sure I'd enjoy it. The smaller displacement has me concerned about low-RPM power that would make driving in town a bit of a disappointment.
Before I invest a few thousand dollars into a given path, I'd like to find something to compare against to see whether or not the powerband and weight would be favorable compared to the RB. I'm hoping someone local to me has a stock or nearly stock SR20DET-swapped 240sx that they'd be willing to let me test drive to see how it feels. I understand this is an odd request and one that few may be willing to oblige, however a question left unasked is one not answered. Even if such an opportunity does not exist; please feel free to share your experience with SR20DET compared to an RB25DET car if you've had the privilege to spend time behind the wheel of both. Thanks, -Kris
