Royal Oak, Michigan
Living here for half of 2010. Pros: Quiet, nice Main street with plenty of people out and about at night. Lots of cool classic cars. Cons: Close to Detroit, poverty, and shady people. Nothing to do. Weird people. Always raining. Tornado warnings once a week. No drift scene. No import cars at all really. It's really humid. It sucks. There is nothing to do. There is nothing to do. I have nothing to do. What is there to do? Nothing. Oh wait, the movie theater is playing Wayne's World. Maybe I will go watch that.

Inland Empire southern California Pros: Houses are pretty affordable compared with the rest of southern California. Nice quite communities (ex Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee/Sun City ) Cons: Aside from the above mentioned the Inland Empire is one of the worst areas to live in all of Southern California. It is a cespool of Bros, hicks, and various poor, ugly, trashy people. You cannot go one day without seeing some tool in a lifted truck on the road. Dirtbikes are also popular in this area. The IE is home to the infamous "Adams kart track" where colorful characters such as Eddy T and Ladi Z hail from. |

I could not have said it better myself, although it's my generation I'm ashamed of the kids that I have to share it with. I live in Riverside CA and I went back to my previous school to visit and it has quite a few speed bumps so I was taking my time getting over one and revved a little to much on accident which triggered a "who could be the bigger douche and be the loudest" between this POS honda ef that look like it could even make it down the road and a VW buggy and i was stuck inbetween both. I was laughing at them as they were starring at me waiting as if I would join them.

And/or? What if you're poor but extremely good looking? Quote:
One day? I can't go one foot, but it doesn't bother me. When a Cali person uses the word hick, what does he mean? Driving a lifted truck and riding dirtbikes is bro not hick, you guys haven't even seen a real hick.

It's a college town, with the University of Missouri being the big one. Also Columbia College (my alma mater) and Stephens College (all wimmens) are here too. Columbia is located at the junction of I70 and HWY63, midway between St. Louis and Kansas City- about 2hrs to either city. I like that it's a liberal town in the middle of a conservative state, creates a nice balance. Lots of friendly, midwestern folk. With that comes a lot of ignorant sumbitches. Housing is cheap compared to the coasts. There's lots of hospitals here, so there's plenty of medical jobs. There's lots of bars (200+), but very few "clubs". Good local music scene, plenty of good food. Car-wise, there's a small scene (the college helps). No emissions, easy to pass inspections. Cops aren't gonna bother you unless you do something stupid. There's dragstrips in KC and STL, with AutoX available as well. There's plans for an actually track to be built by the Carl Edwards family just 20 miles up the highway or so. Weather: Humid. Two years ago I went to Egypt, it was 120 degrees, and it felt wonderful compared to Mid-Missouri in summer. Fortunately the really hot times only last a few weeks. We have maybe 2-3 decent snows a year, usually under 6 inches accumulation. Some years we'll randomly get a few feet. The saying around here goes, "If you don't like the weather in Missouri, wait five minutes". Tornados and flash floods abound. I hated it here as a teen, but it's grown on me. After a 6000 mile tour of the west, I arrived back in town and realized Missouri is a really nice, green, hilly sort of place. There's a reason people settled here! Come check it out, Missouri really does love company. |

Current location = Abilene Texas. Its pretty cool. Really lowkey. There is at least one church per city block. Almost everyone is a holyroller, and everyone seemingly hates things that are different. The old people are all closet racists, I often overhear them talking about "them new naggers taking over their town." Its retarded. Predominantly whites, about 30% are mexican/asians/blacks. Its a mix of rural and suburban. The people here are also predominantly dumbfucks. College students still misspell/misuse YOUR. I hate it.
The job selection is mainly manufacturing/industrial. There's a huge boom in wind towers, so if anyone needs a job in Abilene, look into that. Easy money, not too exhausting. One dumb thing about the town is that wages are regulated strictly. There aren't any high paying jobs besides working in the wind towers or oil field shit. It sucks. Minimum wage is barely $7.75 Cost of living is low. 1b1b home goes for about 350ish, everything included. The weather sucks dick. Its always hot. Stagnant heat, no breeze. And on those extra hot humid days, it rains sweat. Everyone rushes outside to play in the sweat water without realizing its FUCKING SWEAT WATER. THEY DRINK IT OUT OF THE SKY FOR FUCKS SAKE. Girls? An amazing assortment. You've got the chubbies, the BBWs, the plumpers, the SBBWs, and rarely, the sporty fit kid. This city's blood is fucking buffets. No "quality" dining like Applesbees or anything. Just buffets. Food - There's a guy here renown for his good buffet reviews. Seriously? FUCK THIS NOISE. Siderant - you know when you think of Texas, you picture cowboys? Marlboro men? Outback steakhouse guy? Yea. Not here. Everyone is fucking obese as shit, they don't care for healthiness, and gyms have to shut down because the lack of business. I have a regular customer come in and order a dozen donuts FOR HIMSELF. He plops his fat ass into a seat somehow, and goes to town on those fucking things. I start feeling bad the the belt he's wearing. No cow deserves that kind of punishment. Fuck. Everyone agrees when I say the best thing to have in town, besides steak, is fucking JACK IN THE BOX. There is ONE in town. The steakhouses are amazing. I love it. Mesquite, slow-cooked, with semi-cute/doable waitresses. Entertainment - Theres a stripclub called Jaguars about 5 minutes out of town. Literally is packed EVERY NIGHT. Their Mondays are called Manly Mondays. Its actually Gay day. This town is packed with closet gays too. Check craigslist if you think I'm shitting you, but don't ask why. If not the stripclub, its BuffaloWildWings. The wait is no shorter than 45 minutes at any given time. Its gay. The only 'fun' thing to do is the mall. But the mall is patrolled by cops Friday through Sunday. From 12P until closing. No kids under 16 can be alone. No travelling in groups of 3 or more. No adult supervision = ticket. These kids are locked down so damn hard. AdultFun? Everyone has a ranch. Everyone has a lake. Shoot deer/turkey/raccoons/humans/fish/dogs/cats/children. No one cares. Everyone is gun happy. I don't think many older people like me, even though I do respect my elders. Skinny jeans never caught on, so I often get weird looks and asked "Where are you from?" Its strange. Everyone thinks everyone from SoCal can swim/surf/meet celebs/rage all the time/go to the beach forever/reality TV bullshit. FUCK. Sidenote - at the local community college, some girl hit on me. WHILE HOLDING HER 11 MONTH OLD BABY. Everyone here is pregnant, is expecting, has kids, or can't wait to have kids. They're all knocked up at 18, married by 19, and divorced at 21. Fucking kids are retarded. |

pros: small laid back community. Cops here are pretty cool, everybody is your buddy, people like to help you and not alot of racism. Gas here is usally allways cheap compared to most areas up here. cons: very boring boring boring town. Everyone knows what you are up to. Somehow everyone is your cousion(by marriage) Lots of beaner pride here(im mexican) no jobs at all! The nearest places to go are chico(if your into that college stuff) or you can go to sac but most dont they rather go to chico. I choose to go to sac but thats me. cost of living: Dirt cheap! Alot of people live here and commute to sacramento and greater area. Lots of land available on most houses if you want it. food: not much just 3 main places and there all mexican restruant. Only 1 mainstream restruant and thats subway. Girls: lots of girls just you never knew whos your cousion.... mostly mexican population here. Yes there are whites and seek's but not as much of mexicans. car scene: car scene sucks here but i like it like that. At most, just lots of honda boys(live down my block...) If you like peace and quiet. A low key/simple life stlye to raise a family then this is for you. If you like adventure, night life, meeting new people and lots of opertunitys in life then dont come here...im trying to leave. |

Current city : Battle Ground, Washington.
Job selection: nothing much really. everyone here either drives to vancouver WA to work or Portland which is only 30 minutes away. Cost of living: pretty average i guess? newer homes for around 150-200k ish. all the plazas and stores are within like a 1 mile stretch of road, so you wont spend much money while here. Climate: Summer includes 70-95 degree weather, and some rain. haven't lived here long enough to know about winter, but damn does it rain like an ocean during spring. Girls : plenty of white high school girls around the neighborhood walking around at night and such. perfect for your typical teenage kid or pedophile. Entertainment : what's that? Cars : actually im quite suprised. for such a small population theres quite a mix of cars. anything to hot rods and classic cars to imports and plenty of lifted trucks. All in all, 95% of the residents here are white, and me being asian, i get stared at like an alien everywhere i go. you have your typical hillbillies and lots of old people. this place is surrounded by farms and ranches and such. cool huh? id like to include more information about my previously lived locations such as Riverside California or Worcester Massachusetts or even Albuquerque New Mexico but that'd take too long.

I felt it was a nice place to visit, but a god-awful miserable place to live. It's just dirty, expensive, has bad weather, hardly any sunshine, poor parking, filled with droves of the mentally disturbed and/or homeless, etc. The girls are ok though, actually less materialistic than those in Los Angeles imo. Not as many fatties either. There are also great places to eat & decent culture. Lots of indie film festivals and good concerts while I was there. It's not a good place overall, but still better than living in the Bay Area (lived in East Bay for 2 years). The ppl are cool though, it was easier for me to meet girls and friends in general. maybe picking the district that's right for you is important. |

Sacramento, California
Pros: -The State Fair -The Galleria Mall -The lowes parking lot in Citrus Heights, its where a lot of people who have an intrest in cars go in the sac area to meet an talk about cars -Arnold Schwarzenegger lives here -We have a pretty good mix of sum Amazing looking women, and some ugggllllyy ass women and some in the middle (also known as she ain't hot but i'd still hit) -Not an extremely expensive place to live -Gas is at an acceptable price Cons: -Aint SHIT to do besides the mall and the fair for like a month n a half in the summer. -It gets hot as fuckkkkkkkk -Winters get cold but are bearable -Some areas are ghetto as hell like straight nasty -Cops in Placer County are the biggest DOUCHE bags on the face of this planet -Its california, so if you have an SR or an RB you better know someone to pass your smog or leave it as a track car I hate living here strictly because its so fuckin boring, and the cops fuckin suck ass other then that not a bad place to raise a family but as a youngen its just not workin too well for me

Sac might as well be Afghanistan, SF is cramped overcrowded and 10x expensive. Then there's Oakland. SJ is the only livable major city in Norcal.

There are some nicer areas in Oakland, I think Piedmont was ok.
I'd try to live close to SF if I were to move back, but not in SF. San Jose has always stuck me as the OC of Norcal. Looks clean and has jobs, but is expensive and isn't much more than suburban sprawl. Never looked interesting the dozen or so times I drove down there from SF/East Bay. But seriously, nothing real estate-wise is cheap in the whole SF Bay Area. Doesnt even seem like housing prices have dropped with the whole recession. I actually don't mind Sac too much, visited often when my brother went to UC Davis. Sac has a nice downtown. |

Gaithersburg MD, suburb of Washington DC. (most of this applies to any of Southern Montgomery County, Northwest DC, or NoVA).
Pros: -Lots to do (many bar districts, decent music scene, events come here, etc) -Restaurants (we're probably the 5-6th best city in the US for restaurants now) -Jobs. We're least hit by the recession compared to any other major city -Easy to own modified cars here, relatively speaking. -Lots of girls, several colleges, chicks come here for jobs, etc. -Metro is great. I don't drive anywhere, so traffic (see below) doesn't affect me. Cons: -Fall and very early spring are the only acceptable times of year, in terms of temp/humidity. Summer is Jurassic hot and winter is just cold enough to keep you inside. -Less to do than NYC/LA/Miami -It's expensive as fuck to live anywhere worth living. -Traffic is absurd. I'm from here (Bethesda, originally), so I'm used to all of it. Seems like everyone else who lives here moved from Richmond or somewhere. I worked at a 40 person company in NoVA and I was the only DC local. I like it. The only place I'd consider moving is SF, because it's no more expensive but has better weather.

that's what baffles me.
why would anyone want to move to San Francisco because of the weather? it's dark, windy & miserable there pretty much most of the year. don't recall having more than a month of sunshine each year, when I lived there '98-'00 SF can also stand for other places like Santa Fe. Just didn't want to presume. |
