first of all, you shouldn't have even purchased those gifts in the first place since both of those gifts were $100-$200 range. now, you have spoiled your girlfriend. you will be forever indebted to purchase high priced gifts (which may not even match the quality). case in point, you screwed yourself over by impressing the girl. but if she is the one, then a simple dinner out would more than suffice.

It's just a matter of limiting the big purchases. Say you two agree on a $75 christmas like I did. I just overexerted myself by spending double that. Not to "pay her off", but because I wanted to get her it. She still doesn't want me spending anything on her regardless, so part of her will feel bad accepting a gift so big (with her college student budget).
