I like the simplified wiring, inspiration for me to do something similar in the future.

Ok so last post i had this fucking genious idea to mount the electric bs in the glove box. That plan has since been trashed. basically the space retrictions were kiling me, it got super cluttered super fast.

so i did some thinking, and some drinking, and came up with this even sillier idea. i rele liked the idea of using the glovebox to hide it all. i gutted the box itself and will just be using the front portion as a 'door' to the fuses and such. everything is mounted to a piece of wood i had laying around... so far seems like a much better plan.

may have gone overkill on relays, better safe than sorry. i separated as much of the electric systems as possible in the whole build. this way when issues occour its easy(er) to troubleshoot where the problem is.

this is on the passenger floor, always ends up looking like a mess...as per usual im not a pro..

i dont have any pictures, but i wleded up some brackets to the dash bar the plywood bolts too. turned out fairly well. i like it....for now
notice ignitor location

at this point ive got power to the ecu, engine, starter, and fuel pump.
lights, cluster, etc will be coming soon.

fluids in the car, brakes and clutch bled!

Lets also note the bay is fully wired! Pretty well tucked, no ugly brake lines on firewall. But that damn booster line is still there. Throttle cable bracket is a mockup, and the cable is too. Need a s14 or dohc cable since this is a sohc car it's too short I just put it in for looks..doesn't connect.

shits about to get real! stay tuned ladies and gents

not a real update, some pics that never made it.

dont think i mentioned it, no wiring runs through the wheel wells. headlight and fan come up the passenger frame rail. all the wiring goes through the ac water dump tube hole, almost out of sight. its amazing seeing the space under the fender since i cut it all up too. hopefully no rubbing.... and very low is the plan

In these pics there's no wiring..

*****This update is kinda a big deal guys*****

cluster and gauges have power, blue leds will be swapped for white ones. the red "11.5" is a voltage reading, just a digital display i epoxied into the cluster

So at this point it is time to give the first attempt at starting the motor! fingers crossed my wiring is correct....

and it doesn't start...
starter turns, fuel pump is on, pressure at rail...after a bit i smell fuel
turn it over some more, backfire loud as hell.
at this point i begin to think about the ignitor wiring, essentially firing order. i found 2 sources of contradicting info on which color wire is what cylinder. decided top de-pin and swap cylinders 1 and 2...

FIRED RIGHT UP!!

Whats a better way to host videos? my usual flickr account is "full of videos" for basic user..cuz that site sucks balls

didnt leak any oil which is cool, busted a coolant hose as soon as some pressure was built after bleeding..also need a new brake booster.

So at this point im pretty pumped that the motor is running, but ive got a big issue...the head was never really serviced, it previously overheated, valve guides are worn, and leakdown proved lots of leakage past valves..

it is evident the motor has low vacuum (~10 in hg) and a leakdown did verify its from the head. So this is sorta shitty, but i expected it. the head will be serviced via Mazworx, slap in on with new apexi HG and we should be rolling..but thats gonna take some time.

In the mean time i will begin working on the interior, got some good stuff in store.

the problem...

The head will be sent to Mazworx like i said. then this sucker should be better than ever!

Ive been working on the interior, but you will have to wait for that.

I've always loved the kouki/type x look. But there's also a couple kits I like. It won't be super huge widebody aggressive aero. Something more 'simple' really not sure yet

I first checked the interior thread, and then the build section. Where I found 2 posts you made..

The first being and amazing cluster surround you made. Which is superd sir, I debated putting my wideband in one of the vents. Ultimately decided against it due to being too low, to look at while hammering the throttle!

My plan is way more basic, and I am not good with filler/sand/fill/sand type thing... It's far from perfect, but as per my usual mantra it's my first time.

Stay tuned finished product soon.

That dash button delete turned out pretty slick especially for just keeping it simple like you did. Nice work on getting the pig fired up as well. Too bad your glove box setup didn't turn out like you originally hoped, that's a bummer. It turned out far better than mine did. I just half assed it to get it running and racing, because I'm a lazy shit. When will you hope to have the headwork finished and back together? Keep it up, I like that it is getting cleaned up from the inside out.

Really the glovebox thing turned out just fine. In the end it's a much better design.

It will be up and running very soon...apexi HG to seal it up.

It looks funky without the buttons, why don't you just shave the sides completely flat? Would look much cleaner imo.

Everything looks pretty damn good so far. I wish I would've gotten rid of more creature comforts in my car so I could take the wiring down to an extreme, but it should work for now.

Keep the updates flowing.

That's not a bad idea, I took a simple route since it was on a whim. Possible future changes will be made. Thanks tho man!

Yea the super simple wiring was a must have for me. It's straight essentials nothing else. Though damn ac would be fucking awesome.

I've said it before, can't fucking wait to hear your setup! Hope to see it in person one day. Thanks for the kind words, and help diagnosing my low vac issue.

So did Mazworx have anything to say about what the issue was with your head or did you just have them go through the entire thing? Curious what the issue at hand was in that last thread(low SR vac).

After a couple conversations with mazworx (along with input from you and a couple other guys) it was clear the head was at fault.

Tore it apart, found excessive play in valve guides. And 2 bent valves. At that point it was clear, it needed some attention.

The valves weren't seating and sealing properly, thus not creating vaccum, compression, or leak down numbers up to spec.
So do it once, and do it proper. (Crosses fingers) at this point I should have everything ready to make some solid power. But there's always something.
